the AoW rules are way older than all this imported 50k_fg_fancy_weapons, 2sock ethselfrep SAs and all these 5bo/2sock/50+life visios, as several people already statted here:
-you can use enigma (sure, SA is fine as well, if you want to counter the frw a bit)
-you can use stormshield (if you are on budget, a simple 40/9 will do the job, trust me)
-you can use verdungos (hey, you dont even need perfect one...)
-you can use steelrends (no need for perfect ones at all, but if perf items make them go hard - let them use all the perfs lol...)
-you can use upped gores (these have always been standard for pretty much every bvb barb...)
-you can use arreats (upped one with good def roll and a simple 40/9 will do the job, you dont have to use 5bo visio with high life and 2 sock)
-you can use botd (sure if you have some fancy "50kfgfoolsweapon" use it - but you absolutely dont have to, a "simple" botd will do the job)
-you can use 3/15/19+ scs (as far as i remember bearfoot 322s was banned back in time, due to mass duping pre 1.10, i would ban all the other mass duped 322s with other gfx along with the obviously mass duped 29/59/9/9 jewels... thats not what Aow BvB was standing for!!!)

as you can see, you can use very common "standard gear" and you will do fine, it has nothing to do with "a bunch of rich barb players want to make up special play to justify their "1337" items" - again, the AoW rules are older than most users of jsp nowadays....
as long as you like barbs, and like bvb duels (like countless other people in the past have loved SvS, DvD, SvS, HvH etc) you can and will have fun even with "cheap" barb.

Perf botd for 150 fg is nearly the strongest weapon you can buy for AoW.. better weps are WAY more expensive

as you can read in the Guide, nearly nothing can beat Botd.. it is just too strong^^
Even my Top fools CB can barely compete with botd

Eni, arreat, storm, steelrend, gores, angelics TO belt,  9x 40+ / mastery skillers + some ar/ life scs,
then you got an AoW that CAN win alot if you are able to play it




Also we discuss about personal taste xD
everyone prefers different pvp XD
we can discuss years about BvB

If im right you can use also Eteral Upg Shaftstop (30dr) + Verdungo (15dr) so you can now wield Jmod 4x Jeweled or Rare shield instead of Strmshield.
So you dont need again 20k Fg rare Sacred armor

creating rules is one of the most important things in a pvp area. capping ow and replenishment, prevents lame play style. we wanted fun and agressive matches.
capping the damage reduction at 45% is the best break even point for every possible rare/unique/magic/crafted item setup. you can wear runewords, rare armors, unique armors, magicals. you can wear verdungos, ow belt or rare belts. you can wear runewords or rare weapons.

this is something youll notice especially in pubs. everyone looks like the other, beside an armor type change of theyre fortis.
and thats why its fun and even after a couple of years so many ppl follow those rules, because they are absolutly unbeaten in flexibility.
we thought so many nights about a rules change or some different setups, how can it be more attractive or more flexible.
