The great argument of "People who have made good shamans and know how they work" vs "People who have never seen a shaman and think it must suck" vs "People who got embarrassed by my shaman".

As with any elemental character, sorb>all...but until then, a fire druid/shaman has the advantage over smiters and also ww barbs. A barb WW'ing through fissure really hurts...smiters charging blindly through fissures is the same. GM smiter one-shotting a fire druid or shaman? Maybe if he gets a lucky namelock. If the druid has any idea, a GM smiter or WW barb should lose 9/10.

EDIT- unlike my smiter where the first time I duel with it I get 8 kills out of ten, the fire druid takes actual skill to duel with. It is by far the hardest build to duel with IMO. You will never be godly, but it can be very satisfying nonetheless. I thiink it is funny how arrogant some smiters are when they have the world's easiest build to duel with and think they are the dog's bollocks.

well the "GM" smiter would lose by default because he wouldn't be able to absorb fissure. But I'm used to dueling BM smiters who wear hotspurs + rising sun or w/e, and killing them purely with volcano / grizzly. And thats something I've actually gotten fairly good at- hitting a charging paladin with a grizzly strike. The interesting part about Shaman vs Sorb is that it really depends on the character. A BvC who absorbs you can still easily get torn apart by grizzly- its a little like Telesmiter vs BvC, except that he can't just whirl around defensively. But a BvA with absorb is one of the scariest duels for a shaman, that much is true. But take for example a FB sorc. If a fire sorc sees you and thinks "Lol fire I can sorb him", then suddenly the shaman slaps on his hotspurs too. And then you know what happens? The sorc still dies in a single volcano/grizzly combo :S

so yeah, like you say, its a lot to do with matchup. A sorbing smiter is a much much different duel than a GM smiter. But a fire sorc is usually exactly the same

it is a rare sorc that can take more than one volcano LOL, even without Grizzly.
The 200FCR sorcs are pretty hard to catch with it, and it takes some practice but it is funny to watch them stunlocked and die after just one volc.
I only duel in pubs, so yeah, mostly BM and they ARE tougher, but definitely still beatable. Are you on EU ladder?

Oh and consider this little anecdote.

A while back, one of those druid grove nubbykins challenge me with his Fury druid, saying Fury > All and that kind of bullcrap that is totally dumb. But he claimed that a fury druid would beat a shaman due to desync and that sort of bs. It was one of those big namer druid players, can't remember which. Kiba or one of his buddies I think (had fun smashing kiba or an imposter of him in a pubby 2 days ago too). So I get into the game to duel him, and you know what hes doing? He's slapped on Dracs for life leech + tap, prebuffed with fade and is wearing rising sun + hotspurs.

I killed him with a molten boulder -.-

Actually I did lilke 95% of the damage with grizzly and finished him with boulder (after he used the well / shrines 3 times). The trick with grizzly is the one I explained earlier in the guide- the Grizzly Playtime tactic as i describe (in fact, I might have written that section immediately after dueling him, I can't remember). But it certainly is hilarious to see someone thinking that they can simply absorb you to win. Its rather astounding how fast a grizzly can damage someone, even if they're 7000 HP and 50% dr, it slapped straight through him like he was butter. And then it had fun nking him a few times
