Actually "discarded" is a slightly flawed expression, since we're talking about probabilities. It just happens that anything over 100% is equal to 100%.
And yes, really, the theorycrafts here are pretty damn nonsensical. It's really amusing that several years after Grief was released, there could still be people who don't know how it works. Oh well, guesswork is used when an answer is unknown and sometimes those guesses linger on for some time. But honestly, Rends and WTs? What about counting damage based on what the Maximum is? Man, that's just plain wrong, otherwise a damage-oriented lightning sorc could deal some pretty mean damage.
