?...

I had fire druid dittos at one point using PERFECT GEAR on d2pk, the only thing my druid could do when he volcano'd me was to wsg out, I hope you're not implying that someone can just randomly ignore volcano's locking properties and sit there spamming shit at you.

you keep the lock in-case they teleport out

yep, but in d2pk volcano actually does enough damage to fhr most chars

You can fhr on bnet too, though its obviously not as easy as on d2pk, because of the lower synergies.

If you break the 75% FHR chance on volcano (1/8 of their hp) instead of the 37.5% chance (1/16), they'll pretty much die in a single shot, anyway.
Taking FHR/FBR that much pretty much ensures 8 hits for most characters.

On battle.net, however, the question is simply one of if you break 1/16 of their HP or no FHR at all.
This guide is not intended for D2PK, as this is not diablo 2, and is run by a prolific scammer and hacker and is undoubtedly some sort of devious scheme.

If the volcano ISN'T blocked, it will put them into FHR, which will interrupt their animations, and is not capped like FBR with its timer, based upon how much damage it does after reductions:1/16th of their HP = 37.5% chance to FHR
1/8th of their HP = 75% chance to FHR
1/4 of their HP = 100% chance to FHR

This is based on their MAXIMUM hp and occurs after all reductions, based upon how much life they lose (but before they 'heal' back from absorb)

Hence a 2600 damage volcano (1150 physical 1450 fire), against a 75% fire resist 8% dr character, will have the following cutoffs:
37.5% FHR :: 3800 MAX HP
75% FHR :: 1900 MAX HP
100% FHR :: 950 MAX HP

What is worth noting here is that even though your fire damage is higher than your physical, the damage after reductions would be 3/4 physical, 1/4 fire.

That same volcano, against  75% resist 50% dr character:
37.5% FHR :: 2500 MAX HP
75% FHR :: 1250 MAX HP
100% FHR: 625 MAX HP

Every good nec WILL have over 2.5k hp
not to mention they will most likely have over 75% fireres as well

You can FHR a good chunk of necros, but you need to break their bone armor first (grizzly passes), and that means taking out the golem first (fissures).
In order to put a 50% DR necro into FHR, they need to have 2500 HP or less.

All very good necros just eke out just above the FHR threshold at 2700 or so, but honestly, a big chunk will fall into 37.5% FHR range.
Essentially all non-DR necros will be in the 37.5% range, some baddies even in the 75% range.

Remember, however, that volcano still serves as a nasty source of damage in these duels, and a FBR interruption. A grizzly will *ALWAYS* have a 100% chance to fhr someone on a knockback (half their hits) and will easily deal enough damage to be 75% or at worst 37.5% FHR on the rest of hits. Hence a volcano/grizzly combo, even when volcano is entirely out of the FHR threshold, can put the necro first into block from the volcano, then into fhr from the grizzly, and score 3 more volcano hits or so.

touche I guess

though I still find it cute how he writes that you can still fhr/fbr lock chars to death if they can hit you in mid-volcano

When you talk about a 'good' one you're talking about nigh perfect gear.
Theres not that many 45 lifers on nonladder, and when ladder rolls over, the argument is moot (pretty much all necros will be into fhr)
