i somehow understood u were compering 2.9k dmg (on screen)  12 smite base lvl build to a 3.5k 20 smite lvl build

The point I was making was that the damage between the two is negligible if you want to put the skills in other places.

I used on-screen damage because it's much easier to compare and look at than calculating smite's actual damage.

What people can take from that is if given the option between high-damage smite (even a 12 smite base compared to a 20 base...the difference is less than 100 w/ all the penalties) and more life, defense, block, etc. etc. is that it's better to go with the latter.

your calculation is wrong btw

Maybe. But there's no smite calculator that I know of. I used the guide found in the link I posted.

for lvl 99 maybe, but people will stat high foh on their chars and stop leveling on 92-94 (lets face it there are maybe handfull of dedicated pvp players who level their chars 95+)
so people will end up with 8 base smite not with 15 ... (add to this healing from lt and the difference can be important)

Because I'm confused.

lol.

OK! Let's try again, w/o using a picture conveniently located within the thread instead of trekking over to the arreat summit:

46-46 base damage on hoz
133-136 (lvl 39 holy shield) / 153-156 (lvl 44 holy shield)
400 damage from grief
579 - 582 (580 average) / 599 - 602 (600 average)

585% ed from smite (lvl 39) / 660% ed from smite (lvl 44)
200% ed from strength (200's a nice even number)
594% ed from fanatacism (lvl 33)
1379% ed total / 1454% total

20 holy shield / 15 smite: 8859 - 8903 (8874 average)
15 holy shield / 20 smite: 8997 - 9044 (9013 average)
20 holy shield / 20 smite: 9308 - 9355 (9324 average)

Pvp penalty and damage reduction differences:

20 hs / 20 smite and 20 hs / 15 smite: 37 average damage lost
20 hs / 20 smite and 15 hs / 20 smite: 25 average damage lost
15 hs / 20 smite and 20 hs / 15 smite: 11 average damage lost

...and now my head hurts etc.
