There is no contradiction.
ES is not recommended in hardcore PvM, under any circumstance. However, if one uses it, it requires a heavy investment and gear to be focused around it (life/mana charms, increase mana gear).

Well you said never under any circumstances, so NEVER EVER EVER use it. But then said can be used effectively with expensive gear, meaning ES can be effective. I hope you can see why I thought you were contradicting yourself.

Back on topic .. if I were making a light sorc on hc I'd go close to:

Gear
Helm: griffs
Armor: viper
Amulet: maras
Rings: fcr ring, natures/soj
Boots: waters
Gloves: magefist
Belt: tgods
Shield: gerkes
Weapon: hoto
Inventory: Annihilus, Torch.

But replace magefist with bloodfists and thundergods with arach.
Also, possibly maras for a 3 light/100life amu for more dmg or even better 3 light / 25 dr amu.
In viper,griffons and gerkes I'd socket sols or 5/-5 facets.

No mf but thats what I'd go for since I'd be baal running. For mf'ing you'd probably want to use quite a different setup.

still makes it inferior to using no es. taking the same dmg to life which would mean 20-30 hp points or taking that dmg to mana which would mean up to 200-300 mana.

but vs amp, convic, phys dmg, magic and 65-70% es its less..the idea is it just takes a bit of dmg for you, if you can keep your mana up in non mana burn situations u might aswell put it to use
