Perfectly valid point. Chipping away is why I opted for tstorm. Lightning is more of a utility skill for doing exactly as you described, firing at a distance. The damage is significantly lower than a pure light sorc though, so I try to avoid using it. Conviction has a 13.3 yard radius no matter what level it is, which is a bit lower than your Lightning range.
You sacrifice too much in terms of survivability and damage to reach 117 fcr when wielding Infinity, so your best bet is Nova or Charged Bolt as a main attack. I chose Nova because its easy and nostalgic for me. It moves fast enough that if you're within range your opponent WILL get hit. Charged Bolt is a valid attack though with its own merits. It will shred ES faster and has a larger area of attack with a sleep factor and is better at clearing minions. Also a telestomp CB is excruciating to opponents. However telestomping most opponents is suicide for this character due to lower mana, no block, and low life.
Both Nova and CB have their merits though, and either is acceptable as a primary attack. I just opted for Nova.

tstorm is easy overcome since it cannot be aimed. stack >..... you would be better with getting higher lightning. apart of being nostalgic, nova does not have any advantages really compared to other lightning skills.nova does not have any defensive capabilities really unless the person you are dueling is not stacked at all and has no sorb on then I guess its almost autowin anyway...building it more like a lightning sorc would give you the advantage to switch to hoto/spirit if you need, give you range that actually can damage something if you need to l8z a bit, cb to counter es, and still have decent nova to deal with w/e you want to use it against (perhaps zons)
