The only really sad thing IMO is how angling to gain advantage and shifting are considered BM. These were considered GM tactics in 1.09 dueling leagues and made melee more than a click and hold deal. The rest of the gear mentioned is mainly for balance issues but it is funny that over the years anything that has beaten one of the people in charge of the guilds has been added to the BM list.

Agreed 100%. There were a lot of little rules added after I quit hosting melee tourneys in 1.10 that gave the advantage to richer players (eg angling and no elemental damage). Everyone in 1.09 who couldnt afford a badass cruel could still compete with a Lightsaber or Bstar.

Meh, it's not the actual cost of the gear that is a fortune, that's the same amount as any other char. For example, with 5k, you could get a zbug fort, a 2os visionary, a fool's, a decent to high edc, 2x perf ravens, rends, rare/crafted gloves, etc. etc. What kills people on the price of melee chars is your inventory. 37x 3/20/20's on west nl go for 20k fg at the very least.

My point is that pvp, in general, is expensive. Melee is no different.

One of the setups on my zealot costs more than a lot of other chars though. Visionary = 8k, shaft = 5k, prends = 2k, pedc = 2k, pgores I got for 1k dunno what they are now. Just 1 setup not including inventory = 18k. Not even including my other godlies like my fools and the common gear like all my 32020s. So the gear can cost a ton too :)

In 1.10 there was this big battle of like 40 different people in the druid grove channel trying to vote on banning certain things in druidpk...like botdz etc. Most of the people who were doing the complaining were people who owned cruels from 1.09. I challenged all of them: if I can beat every 1.09 cruel on east with a lightsabre, then I get to set the rules.

And I won, of course.

It's why fort, botdz, c/t/a and other things are now used by wolves in private melee.

Druidpk was much more strict starting in mid 1.10 on melee rules than any other.

I was referring to the statement that gm rules punishing poor players: I don't think that you could make a budget zealot work even if high amounts of elemental / magic damage were allowed. Which brings us to:
