you'll have less problems overall with solo pubbing if you use a hybridsin.
barbs are a hard counter to ghosts meaning you won't beat them with a ghost. if they have maxblock then its even worse, if they are a block build they can really suck and still beat a ghost.
smiters are not that much of a problem once you learn to duel vs them, but a lot of mediocre ghosts struggle with smiters, also it is kinda hard to hit the "anti-barb" variant smiters with 60k+ def
I wouldn't really focus which one is "better" since it depends on the matchups and individual play style, but think which kind of character you want to play more. hybrids have more options with damaging traps which make them versatile and you can mix up gameplay style, ghosts are really fun to chase players with because they have such strong chasing power with maxed mb. ghosts slam most casters much harder than a hybrid, but then they fall to barbs, and are at a class disadvantage sin vs sin to both trappers and hybrids. pallies take some getting used to on a ghost but aren't that bad of a matchup imo.
imo, read this guide, read tienje's ghost guide, watch some youtube videos of ghosts and hybrids, then choose whichever one you think you'll have more fun with. personally I like playing ghosts more cause I like to stomp on players, and I like pure trappers more than hybrids in gm vs all, and my favorite pubbing experience was with my kicksin even though they have more shortcomings than most pvp classes. so in short, choose what you think you'll like.
