for all drops: check for ethereality
- set items cannot be ethereal, the ethereal flag cannot be set
- rings, amulets, and charms cannot be ethereal, most of them do not have an ethereal flag to be set, some exceptions exist
- The Stone of Jordan is always ethereal, the Annihilous charm is always ethereal, the Hellfire Torch is always ethereal, the Gheed's Fortune is always ethereal (all of these items will disappear instantly if sold to any vendor, without any possibility of purchasing it back at ANY price)
- inferior items cannot be ethereal, the ethereal flag cannot be set
Any weapon/armor, when dropped in LoD, has a chance to be etheral (etheral flag set to 1).
Except Set items, inferior items, and Indestructible magic/unique items - unless Ghostflame, Shadow Killer, Ethereal Edge, that will always be Indestructible and etheral.
This chance is approximately 5% (both from personnal experience and different sources, but I still dont have an answer about the exact %).
This is about dropped items.
Vendors never sell etheral items, gambling will never produce etheral items (except Ghostflame, Shadow Killer, Ethereal Edge, Wraith Flight).
When you imbue a non-etheral item, it will remain non-etheral.
When you imbue an etheral item, it will remain etheral.
Imbuing doesnt change the etheral flag.

For the drop, it's 7/128 chances to be etheral (for an item that can be etheral, then you exlude sets, indestructible items, low quality items, and bow/ring/...)
5 % then.
(source 2002 then it may have changed)
Thanks !

That's why I wrote, "for an item without staffmods".
Why ?
I come back with the question : "Are you saying there a difference between a droped rare with an ilvl of 60 and an imbue with a clvl 56 ? (for an item without staffmods)"
Yeah, but the number of affixes available will change with the qlvl.
For instance :
battle gauntlets qlvl 49, with an ilvl of 50 will have an alvl of 26 (lest say the higuest affix desired is level 26)
but vambraces, qlvl 69, will have at least an alvl of 39. (you will get all the unwanted affixes from level 27 to 39)
Then the comparison isn't the same.
Yeah, but the sum of skills for an imbue is determined by "ilvl + random(100).
I guessed you wrote 83 because of the circlets.
The difference for the gloves is about the unwanted affixes you may get, the "charges" affixes (one with a level 94).
For instance a war gauntlets imbued with a clvl 83 then ilvl 87 will have an alvl of 75 (therefore the affixe level 94 if we keep taking this one as an exemple is unspawnable).
But with the same war gauntlets imbued levl 95 this time, will have an ilvl of 99 and an alvl of 99 -> the affixe level 94 is now spawnable.
Here's an exemple where there is a difference.
PS : my main question is after the second quote.
and sorry for my rusty english.
