how does defense REDUCE damage? as far as i know, it would only lower the CHANCE TO BE HIT by the attack.. and that chance is ALREADY low when using an st exile..

furthermore, by using an st exile, you have a HIGHER block % which directly impacts the chance to be hit..

I meant damage over time.

With ST lets say you have 40k def and with Vortex you have 45k def (made up numbers i know..would like to get some real ones).

Vs a barb with 20k ar chance to be hit with St and vortex will be 33.3% vs 30.7%.

This might seem small but you have actually reduced the barb damage by 7.8% over time.

But I think its better than this because I've prob underestimated the def gain from vortex.

you haven't counted the difference in the chance to block.. a vortex has 51% (or 49% i'm not sure) while a ST has 60% chance to block the attack.. that would still mean that the st is superior..

Not, if your dex is enough for max block with vortex too (and yes, it is 51%)

enough dex for max block with vortex = lower vita = failed smiter..

thats what we are comparing.. the life gain from st vs the def boost from vortex

This thread is fail with a side order of /facepalm.

First of all you can't get superior bugged shields (so gl with that 15/15 iso).

Second of all anyone who thinks that anything but average damage on the shield matters is epic fail. 90% of your damage comes from HS+Grief who gives a shit about the base shield damage. You could use a fucking buckler it wouldn't make that much of a damage difference.

Thirdly use a Vortex Shield because 800 defence base defence gets multiplied ridiculously by defiance+HS. There is a reason no zealer worth a damn touches anything except Vortex Exiles. I'd never touch Exile with a Smiter because I'm GM but if you're going to fail and BM at least do it right. Who gives a shit about 100-200hp as long as you don't get 1-shot because tap will send you back to full hp anyways.

Vortex is more popular because the bugged ethereal base with 4 sockets is commonly duped.
