Well look dude, i'm sorry you find smiters so hard to duel. Chances are your sin needs a better build, better gear, and you need time to develop better skills. Maybe instead of bitching so much, you should post up your assassin build and gear etc so everyone can try to help you get better. But basically if your build is good all you have to do is stay WW'ing as much as possible. There's no need to predict or time WW's perfectly or any of that. Just stay WW'ing as much as possible. Drop a trap or two every 5 seconds, mind blast the smiter once every 10 seconds, and basically just stay WW'ing. It's not that tough. If your a barb and smiters are slowing you and beating you, you can always life tap them to even the playing field.
So chill out, post your sin, and lets see exactly what the problem is. There's gotta be something wrong if your getting raped by smiters, maybe I can help ya

actually i dont. i consistently crush most smiters i duel, especially in 1v1 with proper gear. not as easy as with barb of course but still only a select few give me problems. that doesn't change the fact that they sometimes still are able to land hits on me by just charging straight up and smiting. what you dont seem to understand though is that i am talking about the absolute best players with proper anti-melee (or in this case anti-wwsin) gear, and this is what the issue has been about since the start. noone ever claimed that wwsins get raped by smiters or anything remotely similar. what i am saying is that you cannot beat the best smiters with meleechars, not even wwsins and wwbarbs. i am pretty sure most barbplayers on west still disagree with me for obvious reasons. i dont care, and honestly, how many smiters using the gear and tactics i've mentioned that also were played by an absolute top player have you seen? i have seen three, maybe four smiterplayers that would be able to pull that off with some training in my whole d2 career, and out of those only two used telesmite regularly (no slow though).
staying in ww as much as possible is the best thing you can do from the smiters point of view since it allows him to continously telesmite or desynchcharge/smite at will. mixing random whirls with running and teleporting works better but is still futile mainly because of low frw and inability to slow smiter. what to do when out of mana btw? ^^
from my point of view you keep underestimating this type of smiter. self-explanatory if you haven't dueled them and experimented with them as much as i have. as a sidenote lifetap is completely useless vs any kind of paladin.
