Thanks! Hope Blizz fixes this soon.

This bug has been around for over 25 years. I don't think they are ever going to get to it. There are plenty of bugs from LOD that they have known about for over 2 decades and ignore.

Yeah, I've realized it's very old bug. I played a lot in the old years but rarely melee and somehow I missed this information (or I forgot).
But this RotW expansion is a new chapter (and resources in Blizz), I believe Blizz commeted this bug officially in their forums last month.

I choose to believe what you're saying/saw, because that would be awesome :)

So if (for example) I put Protector's Stone in simple base helmet 1os, its %ed (for instance 50ed) applies only to "Adds 10-30 Damage" the jewel itself is providing, resulting in "Adds 15-45 Damage" and nothing more?

This is correct. It will only add 15-45 Damage. That ED will not apply to your weapon or spell damage.

Edit: It won't change the numbers on your helm to actually say 15-45. But that is where the ED will apply.

Off-weapon ED, and the min|max on the item itself, don't interact with each other directly in the calculation, bug or not.
First, min|max is added to the min|max sum (min|max of the weapon + min|max from all sources).
Afterwards, off-weapon ED is added to the off-weapon ED sum (ED from all sources).

I understood some of those words.

It's late, I'll re-read tomorrow haha

I should point out that protectors stone is also one of the strongest things you can put in your merc's helm or armor, or weapon if its not a runeword. Same glitch applies, but notably the one-uber-jewel limit is separate with your merc, which is non obvious. Hence your merc can get 1% ctc fade, the min/max damage after the bug and up to 10% physical piercing which makes it a huge damage amplification against most pvm targets. If its an insight/infinity and cure/flickering flame merc, the only life leech armors as alternative to chains of honor are skin of the flayed one, boneflesh and greyform. Flayed has higher leech but your merc will only have 62% resists (fire or poison from helm). Boneflesh only upside is disabling regen via open wounds. Greyform on a cure build gives max fire/cold/poison resist, but not maxed lightning. The protector's stone gives nearly as much physical damage as the +240/140/40% ed CoH gives against demons/undead/animals on a might merc.
