cant i just use flight and save one point from dtalon? I fail to see when I should use dtalon/dclaw

for chainlocking or minionstacking+melee.
you can use normal attack to do the same thing if you want to save 2 skill points but your hits will be a lot less consistent.
dclaw over dtalon is used to take advantage of claw damage and claw mastery, if your claws aren't all too high base damage then go with dtalon.

flight isn't for the same type of application at all. flight is just a mobility skill and isn't used all that much.

on a character that is already strapped for skills?

One hurts the other doesn't, one kbs the other doesn't.

Honestly why do you need more reasons for ONE POINT? It's like not putting a point in WoF.

because with the right type of claws dc hurts a hella lot more than talon....
