ok, did that. opened up a new client, login'd into the second account, but the play button says "now playing". where did i screw up?

check in running processes and make sure you run the other client, not trying to run the same twice

yeah this was published in September last year when we were doing dclone walks with one discord group, so I put it here as well, since then there are many other googable guides

even d2r instance managers etc, software built for this, I sticked with this approach because it does not do more than I need and there is no trust issue with this approach, because that binary comes from microsoft official site and the script you can see what is it doing or not doing, so you are not concerned about your account security or your PC security

when i run "Diablo II Resurrected Launcher" from the "Diablo 2 Resurrected 2" folder it always gives this message.



Then when I login it just says "Playing."



Even if I launch the second folder first it still says that message about the game not being updated. I deleted and recopied the folder to make sure that it is the exact same files.

Hi,

You need to have game copies and shortcuts in order.

When you launch first one, close handle (or run script), then you need to make sure you are trying to run the other one (not the same game copy twice), otherwise it will tell you "playing" and you cannot proceed.

Check in process explorer or in task manager (details) which is already running and which one you need to start.

For some reason my second game launcher runs the game copy in my first folder.

But as you said, when I check in process explorer, Diablo 2 Resurrected 1 is running even if I launched it from Diablo 2 Resurrected 2 first.

Did you allow multiple battle net instances as mentioned in the guide?

You can try that guide from Zeegers who is explaining it slowly and literally bit by bit - similar method (without any additional software). Maybe you will find what you are doing wrong.

Game copy 1 -> shortcut 1 -> start log in with first account

Game copy 2 -> shortcut 2 -> log in with second account

= 2x game clients running

Yes, I have allowed multiple instances in the Battlenet app settings.

And I have no problem running the powershell script and it closes the process just fine. But for some reason both shortcuts always launch the same game copy.
