Hey there, considering getting into the melee scene after years of absence, got a few pieces through friends, could probably build a high end gear-wise zealot. Are there any ideal setups for each of the builds found in pn on east? I'm assuming there's a specific setup that would give you a better shot vs barbs, one for zealots and one for fury druids? I've noticed for example a guillaume's/sa fort/hl/ebotdz/ss/rends/dungo/upped gores/dual craft rings tends to slaughter fury. Low ar since they have low def, max damage to cut through their massive life. Anything specific recommended for the others?

I'd like to know the ideal setup for each matchup, if there is such a thing, or if you simply need to aim for a certain def/ar/damage/fhr etc range for the individual builds. I'm aware it's probably heavily dependent on the actual character in question and his build as opposed to their class, but I'd like some form of guideline if you could provide one? I'm not too knowledgeable in the hidden maths of d2 that veteran melee duelers seem to be aware of (such as sometimes lowering your AR for some reason actuall seems to help you hit more often).

edit: I also prefer non-tap duels, so I'm mainly focusing on that but a tap setup would also be fine considering I believe tap is gm in zvz, and it's used in tourneys.

Puppies should be easy for the most part. Swap our your shield for alma/ss and go. Prob the most common setup would be a guili/ebotdz setup but I generally went shaft/edc/highlords/wts and it never failed in sets or tournies. Remember you don't need to worry about ar vs them so stack ds and use a higher dmg setup to kill them quickly.

Barbs - The setup I always used and is now very popular would be:

Visionary 80/30 (ed/ias) w/ high str
eprud
cham ss
angelics
edc
upd gores
dungos
steelrends

37 32020s

Vs zealots:

Shako setup and vis setup are the best options here.

And yes tap has always been gm in zeal vs zeal on east, which is why all the setups in my guide have exile. It's also gm to use exile vs a non-tap zealot (I show no mercy if it's a setb or tournie, but in pn duels i'll go non-tap if they prefer it since pn duels don't matter). But if you do want to go non-tap (a lot of the newer melees who duel in pn like non-tap more) you could use the vs barb setup I listed above. It's a good setup that I go with. The non-tap built zealot will have the advantage since he'll have a decent amount more life than you since he's statted for non-tap so keep that in mind.

Alright, that clears up a lot, very appreciated ^_^ any reason in particular people use a circ in that prud setup, as opposed to a high def viso? Always wondered why in a matchup where def is important you'd swap to a circ. The more def the merrier, no? Or is a circ ideal for the strength for the free ED%?

The 2 skills make up for most of the defense anyway, and you get more dmg/ar/life with a circlet and stone.
