I was browsing runewords and noticed this:

Famine - Axes/Hammers
+30% Increased Attack Speed
+320-370% Enhanced Damage (varies)
Ignore Target's Defense
Adds 180-200 Magic Damage
Adds 50-200 Fire Damage
Adds 51-250 Lightning Damage
Adds 50-200 Cold Damage
12% Life Stolen Per Hit
Prevent Monster Heal
+10 To Strength

Have you tried using famine + death or something similar ? In my eyes all that elemental damage combined to attack speed of frenzy should be pretty awesome, ed and ias of this rw is pretty nice too. You also get ITD from this.

4 socket rw, could be made to small crescent or ettin axe.

yes, i have considered it but never actually used or even made one myself
i like the mods, it seems very useful

im not convienced that it is better than azurewrath or grief tho, the physical damage is comparable to a lw which is lowish for the price and the added magical damage is comparable to azurewrath but does not have the added sanctuary aura

to summarize, i like the idea of it, but don't think it would be superior to the suggested equipment and has a comparable price

famine is a weapon one shoudl use on a convzealot but not really on any other characters
a barbarian simply cannot boost the elemental damage in any way and lots of that is lost to enemy resistances

while it does not add tons of magical damage, it does add a decent amount, and it would suffice quite well in 1-3 player games
it also has mediocre physical damage
quite a diverse weapon, but not too powerful in these hands

i think what you're getting at is that famine is not an ideal weapon
it would work nicely, but there are other things that would do about as well at much less cost
bstar for example, is practically the same thing, only it has huge ar modifier instead of itd, leaves room for a socket too
