Majin I was hoping you could give me some feedback on my current frenzy mf barb.

OK. I have a lvl 86 Frenzy Barb MFer who I am enjoying A TON this ladder season. Currently, I am running Eldritch, Sharptooth, Threshsocket, Pindle (when hes not might/fanat) and countess.

I would like to start incorporating the hell council into my runs in hopes of finding some HR's but I'm freaking scared! So I'm looking for some advice from people that are safely running them.

Here is my gear setup:

Arreats (ptopaz)
Skullders (ptopaz)
Highlords
Lightsabre (amn)
Azurewrath (amn) (with 2 low dmg swords I felt safer pumping the leech)
Laying of Hands
Goreriders
Ravenfrost
8 life leech resist ring (Prob would use dwarfstar for council).
String of ears

With this setup I have resists of:

fire 75
cold 64
light 64
psn 20

Life - 2900ish with BO.

The question on teh table is...is this enough to run the council safely? I have done them a couple times running friends thru but they were always helping. Does howl work consistently enough on the non - boss members to clear room for me? Should I wait until I can get my life up closer to 4k?

So far, I have noticed that when thresh is extra strong (hes always cursed) that I get popped for like 1/5th of my life bulb per schwack and have to rejuv. If the council are frenzy/extra strong etc I'm afraid I might just get pwned.

Do you have any tips or cheapish gear changes I could make to increase safety?

Thanks in advance!

PS:

Using might merc with:

Eth Bonehew
Tals face
Bonehew

switch out the lightsaber when you can, its pretty low damage
even azurewrath does decent damage because of all the magic/cold that it has
if you can get a stormlash or shaffers to go with your azurewrath that would be good, or an eth oath woulc be even better probably

def guillaumes

I have no problems with skulders, if you want to mf you're going to want to have mf, simple as that

yeah, i use dwarfstar for places like counsul and chaos, why not right?

other than that im pretty sure you got decent help from the other guys

just remember to use your warcrys (howl, battlecry, grim ward to trap them in a corner, whatever you need) and you should be safe, play smarter not harder, you dont have to tank everything like a simple paladin does.

Thanks again for all the help from everyone.

Quick update as to how it all went down last nite.

I traded for a reapers, popped guilliames on, and prebuffed with fade from treachery before heading down there (switched to skullders after ofc).

And it was cake. My dmg was plenty to tear right thru the packs, decrep and warcry kept me really safe, and I horked a pul rune in the few runs that I tested out with :D. Not bad!

I'll prob just save and exit when I see conviction for now, but I did hit a couple frenzy/might packs and they went down with no probs.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions everyone!

Now I just need to find that Lo rune :D

nicely done

perhaps I will mention that the increased rune drop rate would make find item and even more valuable skill to utilize =D

I personally wouldnt be afraid of conviction packs, just separate them out with howl and take down the boss
obviously if it is a pack of souls you might want to be careful, but azurewrath keeps you quite safe from undeads with its knockback

I'm sure you will get a little more confident with your barb as you get more experienced and better geared

Hey MajinKaisa,

Just dropping some lines to thank you and say that this guide is complete! I'm enjoying my Frenzy Barb and thanks to your guide I'm equipping him right. HC + Frenzy Barbs with 4k+ life = WIN! :D

My setup is:

Helm: Arreat's unsocked (have no idea yet about what to sock with, maybe a P. Topaz)
Armor: 900def Chains of Armor (+65 all resists FTW!)
Weapons: 1 Eth BotD Zerk + 1 Eth Deah Zerk (Grief Zerk or Famine Zerk are available, thinking about creating a Smiter and use one of them!)
Boots: Gore riders when I'm not Mfing, War Travs 42% when Mf is running.
Belt: That's where lies my doubt, I don't know if I use a 36/15% Verdungos or a Thundergod's for the +20str and 10% Max Light Resists?
Rings: Bulkhatos 4% and a +20 dex Raven Frost
Ammy: Highlord's Wrath
Inv: 16/20 Barb Torch

I hardly spent any points in Str, just the enough points to wear my gear, all the rest is going to Vit since I play Hardcore.

I can tank almost everything with the Barb even he still lvl 77.

What do you think about my setup?

i think you would be pleased with switching to guillaumes

i dont think you will reach the last ias bp with those axes, but you're close

i dont like the ctc foh on tgods so i only use it when there is a large group of souls that i have to kill, and where did i say that verdungo was a good choice?

I'm gonna trade a Guillaumes to switch it and see how it goes! You didn't mention Verdungo, that was an adaptation for what I got in hands, but I believe that the belt still a good tank option even if you believe that String of Ears is the best choice, which I agree.

Another little doubt is about the skills, is more effective in terms of damage to maximize Taunt instead of Axe Mastery, right?!

Thanks for the help and the prompt reply! :)

uhm, the skills thing is sort of a case by case comparison as far as damage
if you have very high deadly strike, it sort of makes critical strike wayne

1.13 increased how much critical strike you get

you need AR too so its not like mastery is a waste

but the way i have built my frenzy barb now is to max frenzy and all synergies, get all the other 1 pointers I want and then the rest in BO
this way I stat vit instead of str, the life gain from vit is greater than the damage gain from str.
with good eq it is more advantageous to spend skill points on synergies and let your +skills bring up the BO.
when i switched to this I got more damage and more life so it made me happy I did the calcs. the only reason i was opposed to it to begin with is because I thought having a barb meant you had to max BO so that your party members would be happy... but then I realized i dont give a fuck if an hdin has higher BO than me, I don't rely on it as much as he does anyway since I leach life, so fuckem. but you're hc so might be a little different story? whatever im over it
