Lots of options but Griffons is definitely bis for PvM. If I were to wear something else, it would be a 2/30/20 zon circ with sexy mods. I also wear CoH because I’m bored of zipping around on my blizz or hammerdin and I find running cows is still super efficient.

And my go-to for affordability before a nice helmet is always a +2 Valk. Lots of useful stats on it and you can socket with an ias/res jewel.

Maybe I don't play on P8 enough. I can't really tell the difference with Griff on or off, eithet p1 or p8, except when killing bosses takes an extra hit or two on p8.

The reason why griffon is a major upgrade for a normal java, is that it is super effective against mobs where the immunity is broken. I can only write about my observations because I don't know the numbers.

When infinity broke an immunity mobs still happen to have a lot of resistance (feels like 95, 90 or 75). The -45 to -55 light resist on infinity carried by merc does not benefit the java. Therefore griffon feels like a multiplicative damage outcome (even with bad griffon: 95->80 (4x damage), 90->75 (2.5x damage), 75->60 (almost 2x damage).

With infinity on yourself you already have -45 to -55 light res. Therefore the impact of griffon compared to no griffon does not closely feel so overwhelming.

Precisely my observation. It's still about a 30-40% damage increase, but feels very win-more. The damage doesn't do much to increase my clear speed. Of course, I could also just be bad at clearing.

If you are just doing p1, use an act 2 prayer merc with insight. You will always be full mana and hp. Don’t use Andy helm, that - fire resist will mess you up.

Cheap alternative. No need for infinity, maek jewels and phoenix.

Personally yeah, I play a lot of p1-p8. P1 is easy, do whatever u want, but because I farm for efficiency, my gear is min maxed.

Yeah that happened to me as well. At first when I was only using vipermagi and things with insight merc my resists and all were great and I ever had mana problems. Then I upgraded to enigma and infinity and had bad resists and no mana sustain, had to get mana per kill, then swapped to Phoenix and ias / resist jewel and stuff. Now I have 85/75/75/20 resists while wielding Phoenix by using small charms, just not as much room for skill gc.

I tried phoenix offline, in SP, before deciding to invest in it in Ladder. Didn't like it, felt clunky, whether offhand or mainhand, so decided not to invest.

Just doing the standard gear build with griffon socketed w 15IAS 3MAEK jewel, enigma, highlords, raven, spirit, fcr ring, razortail, titans, mf dual res boots, 2/20 jav gloves, etc. Max resists in hell and no mana issues. Infinity on merc of course, with eth fort, and 15 ias andy.

Phoenix mostly helps me when soloing p8 chaos since the ghost drain you and things are tanky and don’t die in 1-2 throws. I also hate spending time to pickup potions so that’s probably why I prefer Phoenix. Even with 8 mana per kill ane 6 mana steal, still run low on mana in chaos with the ghosts draining you at times.

Guessing you are using faith merc? If you change to mancatcher infinity you can run holy freeze act 2 merc with eth reapers or act 5 merc with plague and lawbringer. Those will boost your survivability by a ton. That's what I did.

If you don't want Teleport you don't need to use griffon. Any 2 zon 30frw with nice mods will work especially for p1
