ill try to be slightly less douchey about my answer, when you cast a spell the game calculates the +dmg (psnjav/plague/fury) and add up potential damage, now when the spell hits the target the game takes all this potential damage and subracts some for the res (not sure when sorb gets called up in this sequence but its irrelevant for poison) and this is the time when -res gets calculated, its simply subtracts from the res thats subtracting from the potential damage (or adds to the damage if you get res below 0) so you would have to switch while the pjav is in the air before it hits the target, (just getting back to d2 but im pretty sure this is how it works)

And 40k is good, but I find a lot of pallies/ gang bang 4v1 in pubs people stack antis, so to me I try to go as high as possible on the Psn jav because it's my shield/ try to get it to not stack.

+ I like to be tactical and use more switches on the field + unique builds just so when I destroy people it's like I feel like a master craftsman like a God amongst men just playing the sport like I'm Jet Lee just invincible.
