Thanks for the support, lads. Pleased to know that [3] came in handy smile.gif

I liked #3.
Helped alot.
The rest was way over my head

Yeah, the calculations easily get tiresome and you are bound to make mistakes unless you know exactly how each bonus is classified.
Fortunately, to my knowledge, the game performs these calculations correctly.

Anyone up for the extreme test ? ^^

Wereform synergised by Lycanthropy, buffed with BO + Oak Sage, using Jah runes, Boostable, and Non-boostable Life/Mana sources.

Might point out that multiple sockets don't change the 760 balance point.

True, perhaps I should have been more clear about that. For those who may not understand why ...

X = Life/Mana Boost (a TOTAL of the bonuses from your CURRENT equipment, BO etc. Yes, ALREADY SOCKETED Jah/Sur Runes too).
ONLY the Jah/Sur to be compared to Pruby/Psapp is NOT included in X.

Compare 'Base Life/Mana' and '760*(1 + X)' as described in [3].

Kinda boring, I think.

The calculations themselves are something a 3rd grader could do, but the mathematical approach requires the kind of thinking they SHOULD teach to people in high school.

The boringness comes from the fact that the people who are capable of the understanding and math don't need to see it themselves, they do it themselves, whereas the people who are not capable of the mathematical understanding will not be helped by the math itself at all, just the obvious conclusion.

So all of the math ends up being worthless.

I'll admit it, I never actually bothered to do the math, mainly because I find it boring. I would be much more interested to see something like a function describing lifepoints, from where you could derive a growth function, which is actually useful, not to mention easy to use. Of course, I'm not asking you to do that, I can do it whenever I fetch a blackboard or get bored enough to do it on paper.

In the end, the point of the post is simple. The stupid people will not be helped because they just don't know how to use the formula, which comes from the fact that they don't understand the math. And those who do don't need the formula. So it's all pointless.

And also, the design of your post is pathetic. You gave 1/3rd of your post to give a simple example. That's honestly stupid and a waste of everyone's time.

And besides, your formula demands that people know everything about their character. I think you should rather open up the boostable form and make the formula dependant on the level of the character. Much simpler.

Its good to know that jah is better than perf ruby smile.gif

(in chars built to be high in life).

@olba... It Is a useful guide.. just because you know it already it doesn't mean everyone else does

section 1 says what is boostable and non boostable life which I believe a lot of people on jsp dont know about.
section 2 proves section 1

Actually that's the most practical way to demonstrate exactly what you mean. Try writing a guide or explanation (that is actually helpful), and you will reconsider your POV. But, you just admitted that you're too lazy to do that.

Can you elaborate on this? Or do you mean what I think you mean? I prefer to avoid any misunderstandings when I intend to insult someone.

olba - now that you are done editing your comments to add more complaints ...

How would you go about explaining this to the general public if not by means of an example ?

If that is a waste of someone's time, then whoever that 'someone' is probably would not find it worthy of his time to read the guide in the first place.
Remove section [2] and people would be left wondering, "How do you know if all this works in practice ?"

The so-called 'stupid' people you speak of ... do they read guides ? And if they do, what are the odds we can explain anything to them ? You tell me.
I am trying to reach those who want to understand things and actually try to understand things.

If the formulae are not sophisticated enough, then ask Blizzard to complicate them.

I never meant to say that an example is not good, just that it is not necessary in this case. The math is simple multiplication. If anything, you would need to prove that your math works in practice. And that cannot be done with just math, you need actual shots of actual characters, otherwise it's just math.

Ah, I'm not proposing removal. I'm proposing either additional content or different content. For example, replace the theoretical numbers with screenshots of an actual character before inserting runes or gems and after inserting them. That would be the simplest way to prove that it actually works. After all, if your math has the same solution that reality and your math does not contain mistakes, that means it works. Just proving that there are no holes in the math does not prove that the theory itself is right.

Um, is it just me or does it seem strange that someone who WANTS to understand something CANNOT grasp high school level mathematical thinking along with 3rd grade math?

Ah, I'm not demanding that they add any complications, that would be boring. That way, it could take more time to backtrack the mathematical formulas from practice unless you would check the tens of thousands of lines of hard coded code in the game. Which really isn't practical.

No, you're wrong. Section 1 gives you definitions and a hypothesis. Section 2 proves that the math has no flaws. There is no section that proves that the math works outside itself.

Ah, it would be simple. Convert it so that the boostable life only consists of level-dependant life and add all of the boostable life gained from charms or quests afterwards. Makes it so that you can compare the results of socketing a Sur to gaining a level or two. Which, I think, is much more useful than giving the stupid public a formula they cannot understand.

No, I never said I knew it before. However, I knew that the solution exists. The solution has to exist because one adds life in integers, the other in percents. There has to be a solution, it's intuitive. Whether the solution is pretty or necessary, that's another issue.

If anything, "gaming math" is interesting. Especially if you can find good applications.
