I will not be adding anything of material value that has not already been put in those guides, this guide is more converting D2og guides to D2r.
This updated guide is intended for the game Diablo 2 : Resurrected.

Necro's are incredibly strong at HLD. However at LLD (and MLD) they are more in the middle of the pack rather then standing above the other classes. Having said that, if Necro is your thing and you want to try something hard, maybe this is for you. A Blizzard Sorc & Tele Barb would be considered as hard counters and a lot of match ups for you are just hard. Having said that, they are competitive and can cause everything problems.

Break Points:

Faster Cast Rate: 75FCR or 125FCR
Faster Hit Recovery: 56FHR or 86FHR

Note: When on a budget (read: low mana pool) 75FCR works fine, the long term aim however is to have 125% FCR in as many matchups as possible.

Stat Placement:

Strength - Enough for Gear
Dex - Enough for Max Block
Vita - Everything else here
Energy - None

Hell Rushed, all stat/skill quests completed.

Gear:

Your Gear is pretty straight forward ~ 2pnb/20fcr/30frw Circlet, 2pnb/10fcr amulet, Viper, Spirit/Wand, Runeword or Rare/Magic Shield, x2 SOJs, String/Rare/Craft Belt and Mages/Frostburns/Bloodfists. As you are using Viper (and have Anya) you dont need a lot of resistances from gear. Any resistances lacking should be acquired from charms. Telestaff or Insight on switch.

Spirit 75% Setup

75% FCR Setup = Viper (30) + Spirit (35) + Amulet (10)
86% FHR% = Spirit (55) + Bloodfists (30) + 1 small charm 5fhr
Alternatively if you want the Mana Boost from Frostburns then ~ Spirit (55)+Rare/Craft Belt (24) +2 small charms 5fhr/12mana

Wand 75% Setup

75% FCR Setup = Wand (20) +Viper (30) + Circlet (20) + Amulet or Belt (10)
56% FHR Setup = Bloodfists (30) + Belt (24) + 1 small charm 5fhr/12mana

125% FCR Setup = Spirit (35) + Viper (30) + Circ (20) + Amulet (10) + Belt (10) + Mages (20).
86% FHR = Spirit (55) + Belt (24) + 2 small charms 5fhr/12mana

You will utilise a Tele-Staff on switch to catch certain opponents. If a Barb wants a tele staff in almost every duel, a necro can do w/o one in several matchups. A telestaff on a necro can be seen as a utility rather then a requirement for every class matchup. It is not a deal breaker to have Insight on switch and play without telestaff (you will just have a hard time vs certain classes/builds). Long term look to use a telestaff as much as possible. Note that the Runeword, Stealth, can be considered if you are not using teleport.

Circlet

Starter: Peasant Crown or a 2PNB (or +1 Nec) 30FRW Circlet.
Advanced: 1 Nec 20FCR 30FRW
End Goal: 2 PNB 20FCR 30FRW + Adds

You would ideally look for something like this: 2PNB 20FCR 30FRW 60 Life 10 repl Life 90 Mana 2 sox. Realistically a 2/20/30 with either 60 life, 2sox or 90 mana could be considered an End Game item for most LLD Nec's.

Note: Without FCR Peasant Crown or a 1 Nec 30FRW Circlet can be considered as starter items for the 75% FCR setup (Viper+Spirit +10FCR from Amulet).

Amulet:

1. Rare Amulet 2PNB 10 FCR

Starter: 2PNB 10FCR with Life or Mana
Advanced: 2PNB 10FCR with Life and Mana
End Goal: 2PNB 10FCR 60 Life 10 Repl Life 90 Mana

Weapon(s):

1. Wand 2PNB 20FCR 3Bone Spirit 3Bone Spear 3Fire Golem*
2. Spirit Crystal Sword

Note: You really need Fire Golem on Wand or Shield both in 1v1 or in Team matches vs a ESFB. They are just a pain to duel otherwise.

Switch:

1. Tele-Staff
2. Insight in Low Str requirement item

Shield:

1. Rare with Inc Block, 2 PNB and +3 Bone Spirit with +3 Bone Spear (good luck finding)
2. Rhyme with +Bone Spirit and ideally with Bone Spear and Fire Golem.

Armor:

1. Viper
2. Stealth

Note: Your Losing damage by using Stealth but it brings both FHR and FRW to the table which early on are both very desired. Long Term however its Viper all the way.

Gloves:

1. Mages
2. Bloodfists
3. Frostburns

Rings:

1. x2 SOJ

Belt:

1. Craft Caster Belt 10FCR 24 FHR. Your long term goal is to get 5replenish here as well
2. String of Ears

Boots:

1. Sanders
With Str bug and pre-patch boots being a thing of the past, Sanders are now the go-to boots (much to my horror!)

1. x40 15life / 12mana small charms
2. If FRW Based ~ x20 15/12 + x20 3FRW/12mana or x30 15/12 + x10 3FRW/12mana + Stealth.

Max Bone Spear
Max Bone Spirit
1 in Bone Armor
Max Bone Wall
All remaining points in Bone Prison
