1. Introduction to MLD

Mid-Level Dueling (MLD) is the level 49 dueling bracket, with Wind Druids allowed to level up to 65 to use Enigma. This bracket emphasizes Faster Run Walk (FRW) with only Windy and Sorc's teleporting. The ruleset is designed to ensure that every class has at least one competitive build capable of winning a 1v1 tournament. Tournaments and duels typically take place on the Europe Realm.

2. Introduction to the Sorceress Class

There are several Classes at MLD that are naturally stronger then others. The Sorceress Class has multiple Builds, i.e. (a) ESFB (b) VitaFB (c) ESBlizz (d) VitaLight, (e) EsLight (f) Nova (g) BowSorc (h) Orber. The List can go on. A Vita Light is a Sorc-Killer and is alot of fun to play, while accepting its limitations. It has a hard time vs Druids and Bowa's but with the right gear and a bit of patience it does well vs everything. It is not a Top 3 build, neither is it a Bottom 3 Build. Having teleport allows you to attack when you want and to back off when you want. This is a luxury not every build has at MLD.

3. Breakpoints

FCR: 105% FCR & 117 FCR
Aim to always use 117 FCR

This is achieved by: Orb (20FCR) + Magefist Gloves (20FCR) + Circlet (20FCR) + Lidless (20FCR) + Amulet (20FCR) + Craft Belt (10FCR) + Rare Ring (10FCR)

FHR: 42 or 60 FHR

This is achieved by: Twitchthrow Armor (20FHR) + 7FHR jewel in Twitch (7FHR) + x2 7FHR jewels in Weapon (14 FHR) + x1 7FHR jewel in Circlet (7FHR) + 1 Skiller 12fhr (12FHR)
While you can play with less FHR, from experience the best breakpoints are 42-60FHR, especially vs skilled players.

4. Items

The weapon determines the build

Light sorc's @ 49 come in 2 forms: ESLight, relying on energy shield while dealing damage, and VitaLight, with higher damage at the expense of tankability. Neither build has been very common over the years, compared to an ESFB that is a perfect all round killing machine, or ESBLizz that is ideally suited to Team V Team matchups. However Light sorc's have their uses, and Champions. Unlike other Sorc's, A Light Sorc needs 117FCR to reach its max lightning break point, which hinders the use of Spirit Sword in both builds. Instead, Suicide Branch for ESBuilds and a Rare Orb for Vita Builds is the way to go.

ES or Vita?

I never really liked playing ESLight, and instead i prefer the massive damage you get from a Vita Light, even if the damage can vary significantly. For this reason (and others) I prefer Vita Light. Vita Light is a great Sorc-Killer the main attraction for me.

Helmet

1. Magic 3Light 20FCR 2soc
This is the starter Circlet and is brilliant bang for your buck. Light Facets dont do much for Light sorc's so we use GG jewels instead. Your looking for 7FHR/9str/9dex/15mana (or 30 single res) - GL finding these!
2. (rare) 2Light 30FRW 20FCR 80-90mana
The standard Light Circlet, even for a Vita Build. Thankfully not so uncommon anymore. If you can find one of these with Resistances, stats or the dream, 2soc, great.

Armor

1. Twitchthroe
You will use this virtually always, a GG Stat Jewel works well here. This is the key to the build in junction with Lidless, to achieve maxblock.
2. Hustle
You can experiment using this vs a Druid but if played well, twitch should work fine.

Weapon

1. 2Sorc / 20FCR / 3Lightning / 2-3 Lightning Mastery, or 3Lightning skills / 20fcr / 3Lightning
Basically you need a good orb before considering making a Vita Light Sorc

Shield

1. Lidless "Eld"
You might get some funny looks, but Max Block with Lidless on a Light Sorc is pretty GG.

Swap

1. Insight +17 Medi (ideally with CA)

Amulet

1. 1light/20fcr
Starter craft Amulet. not too shabby.
2. 2light 17fcr. Long term you are looking for a Life roll as well, but these things are incredibly rare.

Gloves

1. Magefist
20FCR and Mana Regen, great.
2. TO Gloves
(for vs Cold Sorc's)

Rings

1. x1 Stone of Jordan
+skills and a mana boost, yes please
2. Rare 10fcr 15str 15dex 90mana with some resistances please (you need a FCR ring to reach 117FCR).

Belt

1. Crafted 10fcr 24fhr 40-60life
Your looking for as close to 60 life as possible here, and then ideally with either 9str (max for level) or 5 repl (again, max for level)

Boots

1. Waterwalks
Gives you everything you really need

Resistance Gear

Unlike most Sorc's we are not using Vipermagi, this means we have serious resistance problems. In addition, long term we want a craft 20fcr amulet, and that also wont have all Res. Therefore, we need to supplement our resistances with Resistance Jewels. so ideally we are looking for jewels like this: 7fhr/9str/9dex/30fire res or 30light res. These are very expensive. The alternative is a belt with +20~30 Single Res in combination with a ring with high single or Dual Resistance. TLDR: a Vita Light has Resistance problems.

5. Charms

1. x10 1Light / 30 Life
2. x10 20life/ 17mana
Note that 19life/17mana can be used if you are on a budget.

6. Stash Items

(a) Thundergods.
(b) x3 - x6 1Light 6str Grand Charms.
(c) Ring 10fcr 15Str 90Mana.
(d) Wand or Circlet with +Str.
In conjunction with Str Items this should enable you to wear Thundergods which you need vs a Light Trapper.
(e) x6 20life/17mana small charms (in case you have mana issues).
(f) Ravenfrost. This is for vs Druids, but you can play x2 SOJ always as well.

The more GG items you have, the less you will need to rely on additional Life/Mana charms to supplement your Mana Pool. You can also live without a Thundergods setup and instead rely on allies to kill the light Trapper for you in Team Duels.

7. Stats

Enough STR for Gear (Frostburns)
Enough Dex for Max Block
All the rest into Energy

8. GM Rules and Limitations

In D2LOD Light Sorc's at MLD were pretty good Sorc killers and nothing appears to have changed in this regard. Apart from a blanket Ban on Thunderstorm Builds (i.e. builds that boost Thunderstorm Damage) there is no limitations for this build.

9. Skills

Nothing in Cold Skills
1 Point Warmth
20 Charged Bolt
1 Point Telekinesis
20 Lightning
1 Point Teleport
1 Point Static Field
1 Point Nova
1 Point Thunderstorm
all remaining points should be split evenly between Lightning Mastery and Chain Lightning

1. Introduction to MLD

Mid-Level Dueling (MLD) is the level 49 dueling bracket in the game Diablo II: Resurrected (D2R). The bracket features Time, Faster Run Walk (FRW), and Skill / Item limitations, ensuring that each class can compete and succeed in 1v1 and Team Duels. Sorceresses and Druids may teleport while Paladins charge around the map and everything else runs. This format is similar to Euro PvP (Early 2000's) and DCL (Polish HLD League in D2R).

The release of D2R presented an opportunity to address several issues that had existed in Diablo II: Lord of Destruction (D2LOD), including:

FRW limit adjustments due to the removal of desync.
Strengthened rules for Druids, who were the weakest MLD class in D2LOD - Windies may now level to 65.
Weakened Amazons, who were the strongest MLD class in D2LOD - Banned Decoy & Valk, Reduced Max Allowed Skill Points in Guided Arrow from 20 to 15.
Redesigned flawed builds, such as ESBlizz, which were too brittle in D2LOD - Reduced global Cold Resistance limits while re-orientated Cold Sorc skill distribution to Warmth.

D2R Patch 2.4 and 2.6 New Additions

The D2R patches also introduced significant changes:

(a) Necromancers and Assassins: Received a massive damage boost.
(b) Assassins: Recast delay on Dragon Flight and Shadow Master removed.
(c) Optimal FHR Breakpoint Limits reduced across across the board.
(d) Armor Runeword "Hustle" Revolutionized the bracket by granting 65% FRW, 40% IAS, and +6 Evade in a single item.

Time Limits

The Damage to Life ratio at MLD is such that it takes less hits to kill an opponent. i.e. 400% enhanced damage weapons and enough skill points to do serious damage, while only two classes have BO ( Druids and Barbarians ). This is optimal especially when noting the FHR changes. We have also adopted fixed time limits for duels and defined "Attackers" and "Defenders" which, in tandem with a fixed time limit of 3 minutes per round in 1v1 and 5 minutes per round in team duels, results in faster matches without protracted duels as seen in other brackets.

Current State of MLD

More than 30 MLD tournaments have been hosted in D2R, including a combination of 1v1 and team tournaments, with every class winning a tournament. We continue to make minor amendments to the rules, strengthening the weaker classes while weakening the stronger classes, addressing past imbalances, and incorporating new elements to maintain a competitive and enjoyable dueling environment.

This is achieved by: Orb (20FCR) + Magefist Gloves (20FCR) + Circlet (20FCR) + Lidless (20FCR) + Amulet (20FCR) + Craft Belt (10FCR) + Rare Ring (10FCR)
or as follows: Orb (20FCR) + Magefist Gloves (20FCR) + Circlet (20FCR) + Viper (30FCR) + Amulet (10FCR) + Craft Belt (10FCR) + Rare Ring (10FCR)

FHR: 42 or 60 FHR

You are really trying to get to 60FHR, but you should certainly not play with less then 42FHR especially when vs other casters. This Break-Point is achieved by: Twitchthrow Armor (20FHR) + 7FHR jewel in Twitch (7FHR) + x2 7FHR jewels in Weapon (14 FHR) + x1 7FHR jewel in Circlet (7FHR) + 1 Skiller 12fhr (12FHR). Alternatively if on a budget just use 1light 12fhr Skillers.

While you can play with less FHR, from experience the optimal breakpoints are 42-60FHR, especially vs skilled players.

VitaLight vs Necro

Vita Light vs Necro requires ideally 18k+ Light damage. Anything less then 18k makes the duel Necro favored as Thundergods on the Necro will absorb a lot of your damage. Having alot of FRW and side stepping, while teleporting and attacking from different angles is the play here. You do not want to be off the necro's screen as you run the risk of dying to invisible Bone Spirits.

VitaLight vs Blizz

Vita Light vs Blizz is a test of your name-locking, chainlocking and chasing ability. As you can see here, I cannot chain to save my life!
