Deciphering great rares and crafted items from mediocre or bad isn't that easy. The best advice is always to check the trophy forums, and all the trade forums from time to time. You can pick up and identify what you find from time to time as well, and if you think you find something of value, make a price check topic.
The big problem you see, is that the people that trade and deal with those kind of high end items, do not want you to find them or trade with them because they want the market for themselves. It's a cynical dog-eat-dog-market, with a pack of hyenas controlling everything.
But you just keep trying, keep making p/c topics and pester them until you get the answers you want.
If you think you've find something good, put it out for sale and let it run for a long time. If it is worth anything, you will get offers. But never take the first offers. They are usually shameless lowball offers because they turn around and sell it to someone in their circle for 50 x the value you got.
