Friend put me on to this game and iim in the tutorials right now in a trial version. Is this game as horrendously addicting as it seems it will be?

Any tips for a new player or mistakes you may have made in the very early stages of gamplay that i can avoid?

Mistake: Flying a ship that you cant afford to have 2 of.

always use best insurance and have a clone so you dont lose skill points. If you are staying in high security space get implants asap so you can learn a bit faster, if you are heading out to low security/no security dont use implants you will lose them real fast.

As obvious as it may seem, always have something in your skill queue.

Oh yeah good trick for skill que is plan the que close to 23 hours, then put a really long skill train time at the end and you can have a skill que for 8+ days in case you dont log in every day you are still training skills.

Seriously though even if you did manage to defeat this AWE-INSPIRING masterpiece of aeronautics you might make off with about 20k ISK.

Its nothing personal, but eve university are a cancer. Their attitude towards pvp is bad for new players and they dont teach you proper pvp either. You will get told to fly a ship hated by the community and you will be blamed, warned and eventually kicked for losses you do on your own. The motto is to not lose ships, even if that means that you never do pvp.
