Honestly, its more or less an economy based game with really good aspects. You got PvP styles ranging from tanks to electronic warfare, drone usage, etc. Got mining and refining for material, and you can get material off planets to make some bad ass stuff required for some of the higher level items. You got people with just tons of money who pretty much trade. Buy low somewhere, sell all high somewhere else. Corporations either at war or allied with each other fighting or trading over resources. Industrial skills to create items from blueprints, scanning space to find technology and locations, and on and on. Sometimes it gets specialized, I say its worth the trial to figure it out.

Everyone else has been pretty spot on. The game is pretty much what you make of it.

I will say though that you really have to have some patience to play this game. Everything from travel to combat to making money takes time in EVE and you have to be willing to invest in it. But if you put forth the effort, it's definitely worth it. You won't find any other game that will even come close to what you will experience here. Every time I try and leave this game I end up coming right back because there isn't else out there like it. Nothing beats going into a huge battle knowing that you could lose a fully outfitted ship that literally took you weeks to raise the money for.

Do the trial, find out what you might like to do, and find a corporation to help you accomplish it. I'd definitely recommend Eve University as a corp to start out in since their entire focus is to help out new players. It's a good place to learn the ropes along side other people who are just as new as you are.
