This is a vid from pirates of the burning sea.

Pirates is like eve but set in the 1720s age of sail in the carribean. PvP/RvR is somewhat similar with 4 factions (Spain, France, England and Pirate) fighting for port cities and their resources.

If you'd like to check it out I have full 30 day unrestricted guest passes because I'm an official "boarding party" member. (The site gives out 14 day passes that are just trials ie you have ship and level restrictions - my passes are full 30 days with no restrictions).

Happy to answer any questions. Now is a great time to join because they're making it basically single-server like Eve (actually there will be one US server and one Europe).

Like Eve in what way? Which aspect? And is it similar in the sense of training?

no the training no but the econ yes very similar. also the combat is similar just ocean ships vs. space etc but similar with capital ships of the line down to small frigates, haulers, etc etc. you get more control over your ship's movements though. leveling works similar to other mmos but its not as heavy on the grind they have lots of ways to gain experience and it doesn't take too long to get to lvl 50

I see. And the PvP?

People generate "contention" on individual ports by sinking enemy faction NPC ships...as this happens a red colored "bubble" expands from the port that becomes a PVP zone where players can attack each other. This bubble grows until a certain number of contention points are met and the port becomes "under attack". The bubble lasts 48 hours as a pvp zone at the end of which time a "port battle" is set between 24 of each faction (you get in on lottery with higher chance to get in with more contention) for control of the port and its resources. At any given time there are like 5-10 "bubbles" will be active on the world map...its like areas of null/low sec. Pvp battles once initiated are instanced with a max of 6 players per side that can reinforce. Its a lot easier to find pvp all the time than it is in eve, at least for me. I spend most of my time in-game engaged in it.

eve is king for many, but a ton of eve players play pirates and the two games have a bunch of parallels

I just see ships and a lot of water, don't get me wrong i mean you are at sea and there not a lot of stuff but water and ships to show... in eve you see a lot of space and not much else but at least the space have pretty coloring from solar system to solar system... here its just ships and a sparkly blue background. Why do 1720 ships have radars o.O. Not bashing on the game btw, I'll love to give it a try ;]

The video is just an instanced battle set in a "night fight". The scenery is actually quite pretty and there are numerous instanced battles. You're right that its not a great example..I choose it because its a good example of a 6v6.

The open sea setting is absolutely gorgeous in fact...there are also some beautiful settings seen in avatar mode
