I have just started playing. Right now I am working on learning skills ofc. but is there a difference between what skills are used after that for pvp vs. like say a mining or courier build?

Thanks,
Doug

mining skills include the tabs industry and science

pvp includes gunnery? turret stuff? other things?

I only really know about mining skills but each skill is specified by its tab generally

Industry Science for mining mainly

Mechanics are for ship maintenance etc

Gunnery is for guns (obviously)

i think you mean what attributes effect what set of skills?

/me clears voice

and i quote

"Quite simple: all of them, except charisma. Unless you're looking for market PvP, in which case it's all of them, except (maybe) intelligence.

For ships, you want Int+Mem to learn all the support skills that make your ship useful, and Per+Wil for the ships and guns themselves. You generally want more in the primary attribute than in the secondary, but there are enough cross-over and inverted attribute requirements (such as the Mem+Per drone skills or the Wil+Per T2 ship skills) that you don't want them too far apart.

(this parts important
…that said, you don't actually need any particular set of attributes to PvP since they make no difference in the actual fight."

if you meant skills then use google or your corp m8s

LOL could you be any more vague? It depends on what he flies. Obviously there is a difference in skills, you really shouldn't have to ask this if you have ever even glanced at the skill list. Look at the suggested certificates for the ship you want to use and start getting the skills

:wallbash: and what if he flies Caldari?

Terrible advice , you have to tell us what you want to fly and why you want to fly it before we can help you out with skills

You should still get Mechanic 5 and Hull Upgrades 5 regardless of what ship he flies.

Just like how you should have Navigation 5, Electronics 5, Engineering 5, etc etc

[rant] There are so many people here in these forums that think you need to train every shitty skill to V in order to do anything. Which is why they probably still haven't left empire. [/rant]

Now awaiting for all the people to tell me about their one time in lowsec or their lofty expedition to 0.0.

Thanks for all your responses. I am having a great time with this game. Basically what I gather from all the responses is:
A) Pay attenion to the learning skills first since this will lessen the time to train the other skills?
B) Since I am mostly armor tanking, I should not worry about the shield related skills?
C) Don't worry about taking a skill past 4 until much later?

BTW, the ships I am using right now is, a punisher for missions:
-three multifreq lasers and a syphon laser in high
-overdrive and barton's cap recharger in med
-dam control, remote armor repairer some armor regen stuff in the low
-I have been thinking of switching to a salvager in place of the syphon laser for some missions.

For mining I have been using a tormentor with two mining lasers in the high and exp cargo holds in the low. I have been using a Sigil to pick up jet cans.

I feel I am heading the right direction, what do you experts think?

BTW Inuke's guide was a big help.
