so ive got 2 mining forman links going: laser field enhance and laser optimization - they dont seem to work though..i activated them and but max range on my mining lasers is still just 15km..i have my orca char as fleet boss and booster and other chars set as squad members...is there something else I need to do? do i need a wing commander?

Yes you need a wing commander for the boosting effects of the fleet commander to effect squad members.

You also need to have fleet command skills. Just train Leadership to 5 set yourself to squad commander, and you and 9 buddies can be in a squad with your bonus'. That's probably more then you'll even need.

ok so i have this straight:
i have 4 chars one orca 3 hulks i make the orca char the squad leader and put the hulks under her - but what about the fleet leader? can i boost the fleet leader too? or does one of my hulks not get the bonus? i have leadership 5 (otherwise i would be able to fit the links)

You don't need a fleet commander. Just put the Orca as squad commander, and the hulks under it and you'll get all the bonuses.

Fleet commander gives bonus' to everyone as long as....

There is a wing commander with the right level of skills to command as many squads as there are... and

Each Squad has a Squad Commander with high enough leadership to hold everyone in the squad.

If any of those links are missing the Fleet Commanders bonus' do not apply. For example...

If the wing commander is missing, the Squad Commanders bonuses still apply to the squad but not the fleet commander's.

If the Squad Commander is missing that squad receives no bonuses. It is quite literally the chain of command.

This is exactly it. But to really shorten it, put all your hulks as SQUAD MEMBERS, and your Orca as the SQUAD COMMANDER. Plain and simple.

but doesnt one character have to be the fleet comander? im using the "form fleet" action to group up

no u just move yourself down to squad commander position
