Its sorta like Freelancer, but better

It has a very high learning curve, tons to learn early in, and the skill system I don't much care for (everything relies on skills.. want to fly a bigger / better ship? need certain skills. Skill train in real time, hours, days, it can take months just to fly the better ships and equip them well.) So there is no EXP and no grinding, and training skills works while offline (can only do 1 at a time of course), so its nice if you have a job and can only play like an hour a day.

But at the same time, then you are paying $15 a month for 30 hours of gameplay; In a game like WoW you can really put a lot more time into the game, there is no sitting around waiting for a skill to finish training. I logged 250 days of played time in WoW before I quit in March of last year.. i've been looking for an MMORPG that takes less of a time commitment ever since, and my brother played eve, so i went to eve. It's not as crazy fun as raiding the new instances that get released in WoW and getting first kills, but I like it, much less of a time sinkhole for sure, though it literally takes a few months before you can do anything decent except run the lowest level missions constantly.

Yep, PvP is 100% open, you can shoot at anybody anywhere and if they die you can loot their ship and they lose it.

But there are protected regions for newer players (high security space) that go from 0.5 to 1.0, 1.0 being the safest, 0.0 being completely lawless and sometimes player owned, 0.1-0.4 being lawless as well.

And in WoW you can do raids, which are easily 6 hours or more of content every single night. I really miss AQ40 and Naxx x_x but even if I went back those aren't raided anymore, they just rott, which kinda sucks.

As far as population goes, there is just one server, so the population is pretty dense. The entire game revolves around making ISK basically, everything hinges on it, its not like WoW where Gold was pretty much worthless except for potions or if you aren't in a good raiding guild and had to buy stuff from the auction house a lot.

And you'll likely never see a titan, it takes like 1 year before you can even FLY on if you DEDICATE youself to training for titan flying. Then there is training to use equipment on them, one titan takes 2 months to build, costs an ABSURD amount of isk / resources, only a few corporations can actually build them (corporations = guilds), and once they are in space they stay there after you go offline so you have to hide them since everyone wants to blow them up.

Most gear you get from good raids in WoW is pretty multi purpose.

My guild is now full tier 6, they have 5-6 of those legendary weapons off Illidan..

When they go into PvP battlegrounds, it is a slaughter biggrin.gif

Yeah, and season 3/4 still doesn't compare to T6

I got to the top of my server years ago until i finally got kicked by the warlock lead because he didn't like me and my ideas about how warlocks should raid (he kinda had social problems lol)

So what I did was figure hey, i've gone this far, instead of quitting the game i'll try one server transfer. I found that a server had 2 good top guilds that were much better than mine (even though my old one was the best on our server), I figured i'd transfer, apply to the top one, and if I didn't get in, there were other good guild there to fall back on. But I got in pretty easily because of my experiance and because of how well I raided, and I stuck with them until I quit the game for time issues. They were one of the top 10 guilds in the united states as far as raid progression goes.

They were even ahead of Elitist Jerks if I remember correctly xD and EJ are pretty famous

Anyways..

Eve is a very fun game, if you are strapped for time it might be something worth getting into. Just be aware that PVP is not glamorous in the game. There are basically no fair fights unless you arrange them yourself; it's usually

You go through a jump gate

5+ players sitting at the other side of the jump gate blow the crap out of you

The end, go buy another expensive ship

Gate camps are fairly common, and pirates usually attack in packs, so you can't really defend yourself in a lot of instances.

And if you equip your ship to defend against pirates completely, then pow, you can't mine or do missions or anything else because you are too gimped for them

Eve is pretty boring, but I've been playing since release (5 years and change).

It's a pvp focused game but tbh the pvp does leave something to be desired. Massive 'skillblobs' are fairly common, although you can avoid them with careful ship selection/alt scouting. It's a great game if you enjoy griefing people though, scamming is allowed for most things (I am too honest to enjoy that, but there are a lot of stupid people that play, my corpmate at the time got scammed out of a hulk bpo when they were valued in excess of 100b isk), you can blow people up in 'high security space' when they think they are safe, when you kill someone their ship is gone and you can loot their mods.

The pve is pretty awful, it's really just there to provide stuff to pvp with.

Like any mmo the real value comes from the interaction between you and your corpmates.

I haven't paid for the game with cash in over 2 years, nor would I pay 15 dollars a month (I don't even really play anymore, just keep skills going). They just increased the cost of buying time codes with ISK (a great feature, the new costs suck though).

The game is probably the most fun when you are new, and can get into a good newbie pvp corp. sniggwaffe is probably the best choice, if you have an SA account you could join goonswarm, if you want to learn how to play the game wrong you can join eve university.
