throw me a pm with your in game name and i'll drop you off a cybernetics skillbook and a set of +3 implants. they will add 270 sp earned per hour which really adds up. thats 6500 sp per day which is more than 10% of what you can earn with a remap to full intelligence/memory or perception/willpower. also at first I would recomend saving your remaps untill you have a better handle on the game and a clearer picture of what you plan on doing with your pilot. Another HUGE help to beginners and old timers alike is the out of game application Evemon. if you google it it should be the first hit, and can help you understand skill progression and figure out a good short term goal for skilling. A rifter is a great ship to start and there is a "built in" skill plan to help you get into one quickly. It's a great start because the weapons you use for that also carry over to a thrasher, which is a great ship for cruising through level 2's and even some 3's. Minmatar is great for pvp, but if you think you'll do less pvp and more of eve's brand of pve I would definately go Caldari. Missle boats are definately the best missioners out there (although alot of people would argue that). Personaly I would stay away from Gallente. the idea of controling an army of drones to do your dirty work for you is interesting in theory, but It quickly becomes VERY skill intensive.

This is some good detail, i would definitely pay attention to it.

For pve though I would say
Caldari > Mini > Gal > Amarr

(But mini and cald are fairly close)

And pvp (depending on what your doing)

Fleet blob pvp - Amarr > Mini > Gal > Cal
Small gang/solo/not 50 vs 50 - Min > Amarr > Gal > Cal

If your looking to be versatile, and pvp/pve. I would say mini is your best option.

If you do go mini, most definitely aim towards a a rifter, and then a thrasher.

And on a complete side note, Reorox is a cool dude, and i have nothing against him. I vouch him for what he is going to do for you.
So @ reorox im not trying to call you out.

Back @ Dot
Be really careful who you give your in game name out too. If you ever plan on buying isk, some jsp users will try and black mail you into giving them isk or even FG. They will threaten to report you to CCP (Game mods) who in turn will ban hammer you.
So just be extremely careful who you give it out too.

But Reorox is a cool dude, and i recommend him. So no worries there.

starting a frsh pilot that you plan on flying right away muddies the water a bit because you need to train core skills and ship/weapon skills at the same time. My advice would be to train these skills right away to be able to fly a somewhat balanced frigate....

(for minmatar)
minmatar frigate: level 4
gunnery: level 5
small projectile weapons: level 5
small autocannon specialization: level 1
weapon upgrades: level 4
mechanic: level 4
hull upgrades: level 4
repair: level 4
navigation: level 5
electronics: level 5
electronics upgrades: level 4
engineering: level 5
engineering upgrades: level 4
controled burst and the rest of the gunnery support skills to level 4 as you can.

that list isn't in order really, just work on them and aim for those numbers to start. what that does is give you some decent fitting skills, a t2 armor tank, and t2 autocannons (artillery is ok for a thrasher, but for a rifter you're primarily relying on being fast and getting inside enemies ability to track you so autocannon is a better option)

a rifter and level 1-2 missions is a great way to get the hang for basic piloting, and once you have those skills it's only a short train to fly a thrasher.

also, as you get into harder missions or start to pvp you will need to fix the rifter/thrashers low armor resists so think about throwing at least a few levels into the four armor resist skills.

I know it looks like a lot but it's really only a 2-3 week skill plan and is well worth the time invested. skill makes a pilot good, but support skills keep him alive.

almost forgot, Afterburner to level 1 is also a must have. the rest of the navigation skills are also very important but can wait a little bit.

Once in a fleet, you can right click on the person who is already in the mission area. Look for the option warp to member within 0 (or some other distance if you choose).

Though you can definitely warp in and help each other. Im not sure that you can both complete the mission by just doing one.
Im not a big pve missioner myself, so im not 100% sure how they work.
I do more pvp/null ratting pve
