been playing all night and morning now.  Got more than half way through my tutorial mining mission.  Starting to get this game little by little.  There are still a ton to learn I know, but I'm starting to get some of the basics down.  This game really seems like a sit back and watch type of game where very little player skill (if any at all) is involved.  PvP seems like it's whoever has the best ship?  And corp vs corp would be whoever has the most members?

nooooooo :P

PvP comes down to ships, skills, # of players, location and more attributes. It may be a little simpler than something like WoW. But its still requires a lot of skill.

it's a stratedgy mmo, not a hack-n-slash.

this isn't WoW

1. depending where you are, you'll probably be duel screening under 3 months. You CAN just sit back and kill monsters, but what's the point of that, unless you're used to a non-player intensive game like WoW.
2. In PvP, there are things called Logistics and ECM Jammers, in big fights, they can severely change battles (I've seen a 40 vs 90 hold long enough for back-up to arrive, with only 12 losses and 32 kills)
There's also different pvp sections (high, low, and null) where each one has a specific way to fight. Of course you can just blob, but most smart people see a blob, and just safe up, cloak if they have it, and log if they don't have aggression for 15 minutes.
3. Yes and no, a lot of backstabbing/politics and usually it's alliances vs alliances. There are preference to space territory, and you'll learn about that later.

There are still a lot of noobs in EVE, including me, I'm a noob, but I think I'm catching on quick. So don't expect after crushing 1 Battlecruiser with your Battlecruiser, that all of a sudden you've become champion of battlecruisers and can take on any battlecruiser. Because most likely it was underfitted or it was energy guns vs your armor tank.

e: if I'm on, add me and ask me any questions. I'd take you personally under my wing but I don't play much anymore.

This, new people like to join the game and purchase isk or plex so suddenly they have 1 bil :P
If you have the isk to lose then your like " oh yea i can go fight that guy, ill romp him" and then you will die miserably because your less than a month old :P

Also read this thread, a lot of us put our 2 sense into helping acrolithe out :)

I forgot to mention in pm's, but the char's "lvl" is based on how long youve trained for. There isnt really "lvl's" in the game, but a comparasion is that eve has skill points. skillpoints tell a player how long you have trained/possibly played eve. But that information is only available to the owner of the char :) You can choose not to give it out if someone asks.

can easily guess it seems like an active player keeps around 2k sp per hour, that's 48x30 per month

employment history shows the date you joined by your first corp (npc corp)

I'm kind of amazed how many times armor buffer has saved me vs active armor tank.

using ECM drones as an escape tool is very handy.

e: also, the only 1v1 possible, is if a npc-corp player puts out a container that says "steal if you wanna 1v1" because otherwise, expect that person to just be tanky, tackle you, and theuir friends are jumping and warping to rape your sorry ass for a nice kb

e: was thinking of flying cynabal, but can get nearly same difficulty of kills with a myrmidon.
especially cynabal might be fast, I'd prob just fit it like one of those kiting tengu's you see regularly

Thank you for proving that I was wrong. From the NPC battles I've done while mining, it just seems like it was lock onto target and then shoot. No way of controlling your ship at all so it just seemed a bit... dull.

you have lots of ways to control your ship , and your opponent`s ship too if you`re smart ^^

shooting npc is total different from pvp ... even shooting npc is much more successful if you apply the "pvp rules" mainly keeping trasversal at minimum and speed tanking .

here is a short guide , you must learn about weapon systems and how they work ... that`s reaaaly basics

http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/wensley/The_Rifter_Guide_Solo_PvP.pdf

read this and you`ll know maybe ... 20% of basic tactics ^^

Thank you for the link. I will definitely check it out. As an MMO vet, I understand you can't judge a game after playing it for a day, a week or even a month. You need to see the end game. I was just stating my findings of the game so far and appreciate the helpful statements and advice you guys have given me so far =) About to log on in a bit and start doing more of my mining tutorial =) Been able to finish all of the missions within the timeframe to get the bonus isk so I'm starting to pad my wallet a bit =)
