Actually you'd just sit in town, you gain exp from party members whether they're in the same map as you or not, the maps have a required level to enter them so you'd just sit in one of the 3 main towns and let them do all the work :P

I did that with a lvl 100 and all i was rolling in was mas 1's lol

when i first figured it out
i would just go up to random peopel and start doing that and be like'
