lemme say, there less ppl @ jsp who'r playing Rappelz...

if you'r young and got much time to waste with games then you'r right @ Rappelz..

i'm happy that i stopped playing ^^.

europe server = unfriendly and not good for new players
usa server = workable cause of multi cultures, there you got better chances to start as a new player (+ more ppl then on dead europe)

well this info is like 1 year old when i stoped ^^

It's a very awesome game. Depending on the server, it can be noob-friendly or incredibly harsh for new players.

If you're going to be broke, do not start on Bahamut.

Interesting to see you here... I used to play this game a few years back. I probably didn't get too far but I played on the Fenrir server. This game looks and feels a LOT like the PvE aspect of Guild Wars, and it's quite party oriented.
Soloing in this game is really bad and slow as hell. I guess all GPotato games are like that, because they expect you to buy cash shop items that give EXP bonuses. I never spent a cent on this game.
One thing I did like about this game is the Auction House, which is extremely robust for a free to play MMO. It rivals even Dragon Nest - dunno if you played that but that has a good AH as well, but Rappelz came out many many years before. I think you can find some cash shop items in the AH to buy with regular in-game gold as well.

This game has a job class system similar to Ragnarok Online, not sure if you played that either but your character gets both a Character Level and a Job Level, and after a certain job level you can advance your class. You can advance your class BEFORE maxing out your job level, or you can keep on grinding to gain extra stats and skill points. In this game they call that "overburning". I was trying to do that but I got to the point where the people at my character level had already advanced to the second job and did not want to party with a first job character. I tried grinding it out myself but the exp was so garbage and I just gave up. That's pretty much the reason why I quit.

Also I remember this game has a billion quests so the opportunity for soloing seems like it's there, but it's extremely time consuming to be running back and forth, and the exp bonuses aren't huge. I'm pretty sure a full member party in a difficult dungeon is the best way to level. There is also some strange Fatigue system that somehow limits your grinding. Something about Stamina but I don't remember how it works.

To the above: It's overbreeding, not overburning.
Fun to start? No.
1-20 is basically quests
20-70 DPs, BUT if you don't have a decent HLP, you won't get invited to any parties. (During that lvl range, you can easily OB, no one gives a shit about your job.)
70-90+ quests
Then DPs again and soon another questline. By that time, you'll find at what lvl etc.
About servers: they all have assholes and awesome dudes, so doesn't really matter which you choose.

In conclusion: you can't start out fresh, you MUST have a HLP. Or you will be wasting A LOT of time soloing. Not worth it.

That's my opinion, I'm up for a discussion.

My friends and I started last night and it has been fun so far. I started a second char to play on my own and it is still fun.

If you liked games like dungeon siege then you should like this game.

Why must you have a high level pet?
My friends and I started out fresh. I also made my own char and in just an hourish I found multiple drop worth ~2M each....There are many nice people on Fenrir as I can walk into Horizon and get buffed easily.

My char that I started on my own leveled up faster than with a party and I was also able to complete more faster alone minus a couple boss chars.
