Hi i was wondering whats the best armor to tank

Plate/Chain or Scale/Leather

Scale/Leather : Give both Magic/Melee def

Plate/Chain : Give high Melee def but nearly no Magic def


so heres my experience with both

With Scale/Leather (68ee lvl 55 leather) : i get hit more often but way less crit especially against caster mobs

With Plate/Chain (99ee lvl 50 chain) : i get less hit but when a mobs cast a spell they crit almost everytime which dmg is insane (3-500 per hit) so when i fall against 3 mobs i can get hit up to 1.5k in a second


so my main question is should i buy a good leather/scale or just getting a better chain/plate will solve my issue ?

Does your leather have Critical Flux or other mods compared to your chain?
Casters always crit often, but critical flux can reduce critical hits... well I believe both melee and magical.

Are your stats the same? / Are you using the same character class? / Are you using the same weapon, main charm, acc charm? / Are you noticing this from level 55 onwards?

The basic answer is scale armor is basically the best and most universal armor for most melee characters (other than robe only characters and guardian)
I like heavy armors, but once again, I will have to have some scales / leathers once I get a headhunter.

Most hits are physical, and yes casters do more damage than melee-only mobs, but just so you have a run-down of how it works.

All mobs can use a charm, and each mob only has one or the other (elemental charm or heal charm)
Monsters that use an elemental charm will attack with both their elemental charm and their melee attacks
Monsters that use a heal charm are the melee-only mobs, which will only use their heal charm if they or another mob on screen is wounded

Here are the base stats for lvl 55 (MQ) armors as seen in the LS portal. Take note that these values are shown with 5 vitality and int. Increasing vit will increase physical defense as a factor with base armor physical defense and increasing int will increase magical defense as a factor with base armor magical defense. Keep these ratios in mind, not necessarily the base values.

Tier 14 Robe
Physical defense: 0-14
Magical defense: 28-84

Tier 14 Padded
Physical defense: 0-28
Magical defense: 28-70

Tier 14 Leather
Physical defense: 14-42
Magical defense: 14-56

Tier 14 Scale
Physical defense: 14-56
Magical defense: 14-42

Tier 14 Chain
Physical defense: 28-70
Magical defense: 0-28

Tier 14 Plate
Physical defense: 28-84
Magical defense: 0-14


Since most damage taken is physical, heavy armors work best at very low or 0 ee. Once a little bit of ee is involved, chain will tend to defend better than plate since magical defense will be twice as good for chain as for plate. At mid-high amounts of ee, scale should be best, quite a bit better than either chain or leather, especially with decent amounts of vit/int. Leather should be relatively close at high ee and high levels of vit compared with int. At very, very high EE and very high vit (especially with very low int), leather can tank better than scale (think 250 ee 200 vit, less than 50 int), but I would guess that this is not within the range of what you are likely to be experiencing...

My recommendation based on what level of gear I'm thinking you're at, go with chain or scale. Ofc much higher ee can make up for a worse type for sure ;)

kk so heres my choice for now : 99ee chain lvl 50 or 76ee Scale lvl 55

so since the caster/crit is an issue for me im better to use the scale


also if heard that a 100ee @ lvl 50 = 76ee @ lvl 55

so say with a lvl 55 70ee scale im good for lvl 55-60 (heal 2-3 time per level) does it mean id need a lvl 55 142 ee scale to be as effective at llvl 70-75 as it was with my 70 ee scale was for 55-60 ? or the damage of mobs are higher and i need way more ee on my scale to be the case ?

99 ee level 50 chain is equivalent to a 79 ee level 55 chain (roughly 20% difference because of higher tier)

I am guessing you have a Vault? I could not see your 76 ee level 55 Scale, I did see however a 67 ee level 55 Leather.
If in group and tanking, I would go with the chain if you don't have that scale, but, if you are dealing damage and using
daggers, then use the 42 Dexterity level 55 chain armor you have.

EDIT: if another person in the group has better tanking gear, go with stat armor and sit in the back.

ya it was in vault ... and also i forgot to say it but i mainly play solo so having a friend to tank isnt really an option for now

My personal opinion is that because you are using 5-20 intelligence, the amount of bonus defense you get is minimal by comparison to 80 vitality.
so i would pick chain over scale. Although i didn't realise plates and chains had the same minimum physical defense, which means I will be avoiding plates if i can get a similar chain.

Didn't realise you had that scale when i recommended the chain as there's not much in it. I personally would be using the chain over the scale for vitality/energy reasons.
I would quite happily buy the chain off you if you don't like it as i'm dealing with several new players so passing it on won't take long ;)

I would go with this to be honest... even though it may seem small, 5% Power Shot is quite handy to have when using Consistent average damage weapons like Daggers / Axes / Spears and Battle axes.

You have added defense vs Wind and Ice casting monsters and the minimal 2% parry... even though negligible, they do help.

EDIT:

+ % Power Shot Gives a % chance that your melee attack will do the full damage amount listed on the weapon.
+ % Parry Gives a % chance to parry a melee attack, which gives you increased defense vs that attack.
+ % Wind Mastery Also increases resistance vs wind attacks against your character.
