So I've played two chars, a Thief and a Fighter, to level 5 and rerolled several times because I could barely kill monsters. Every time it gets to the point where I can't kill 2 mobs at once, I reroll. The highest EE item I found was 18% and it was on a staff..... yeah.

I guess if you play this game for weeks or months maybe you can be successful, but the best way to start off in this game is with FG. Even 3 FG would help immensely.

Every time I've joined a group, we waited in town forever or I just got kicked after 5 seconds.

It's not impossible, and some might even go as far to say it's pretty easy to do. It really all depends on the amount of effort you put in, if you expect it to just happen and come easily without any work, you will be disappointed.

Your topic title should have said "This Game is Difficult Without Me Putting In Effort" because that is far more realistic.

I started a few weeks ago with zero FG.

It can be done you just have to build from the ground up.

You won't get rich fast starting from nothing but its entirely possible.

I play with my girlfriend on and off and we go till about level 25 and reroll.

1 FG at a time adds up just hang in there and keep your market full.

i started hc with no fg and no gear not too long ago. well i knew the basics of the game though, so i had an advantage i guess.
my first 2 climbs were completly solo.
so here`s my advice:

every time u find a higher tier weapon/armor: use that (don`t look on more ee on the other one, just look at the plain dmg/defense)
heavy weapons are nice if no real gear exists.
barb is a good choice to start with, and retribution will help alot on evil presences, especially with a heavy weapon u can kill em with small gear.
sell stuff woth 1fg (there is a tread with the crafter isos somewhere and a guide in this forumpart)
get a guild that pays for guildpoints, once u reached lvl 71 to masterquest

Fish. You can easily get to 71 with no rod fishing up the most basic fish and frying them.

I suck at cooking part, tho >.> I am successful about 1/3 of the time.
