I see you play softcore, so in your case i would use axes for weapons and go with a build based on strength.
The more strength you have, the more damage you will make. Also this is same for weapons ~ you need to get them with ee = enhanced effect.
As for the armor i would suggest to buy str ones if you can afford, else dex or ee.
Charms with str will do the job and you'll have a pure str build, a pure dmg character in other words.

axes and swords are both expeniv, so buy swords because u can use swords on samu and pala ( if u pass)

Swords are best because they do high crits and can be used on more unlocked characters.
