I go 75 vita fighter, with Powerstrike and Retribution. I do have pretty decent MQ gear though.

i would say a combination of gear and vita will surpass a normal all vita build with terrible items
you need to think about sustaining your rlife and being able to kill monsters
find that balance and you have a successful solo char

playing Paly with medicore gear of tank plate and axe. 100vita, others to raise damage and keep ratio at 50/50. Works pretty nice.
