So I know for monk the casting ability is Xcast

Would there be anything useful puting points into or is Xcast even worth using to climb with?


I've done many caster climbs but not any with the abilitys yet so I'm not sure which would be usefull.

Basically No.

Unless you intend to hit stuff with your weapon, it will not charge.
Basically you either use a melee monk
Or you use skills which have "Charges with Cast" Such as pillarcast/piercecast, so a quick look at abilities (thanks to stok3d for the image)



So the only skills worth using:
Piercecast,
Pillarcast,
Powercast,
Multicast,
Doublecast,
Chaos.

And even then, i'd only recommend the 3 mage abilities and multicast.

Personally, on my monk, i melee upto lvl 25 using no abilities at all. Then at 25 begin casting, using powercast, then begin putting points into piercecast. Works fine.

I agree with the above. Monk's poor mana pool makes it difficult to cast efficiently at lower levels. You will shrine constantly, even with decent +Mana gear on. I am currently in the same situation, and I am pondering buying a few EE daggers/staves to get me to 15-20 or so, then start casting when my INT/Mana gets higher.
