I have 0 gear and 0fg. I just started the game.

How should I stat/gear a magician?

I assume

INT Wep/Arm and EE Charm.

How about stats?

5-10 points into vitality and the rest into intelligence :)

put the points into vitality first.

Id say 10 Vita, considering you wont be able to afford high EE gear and kill fast. With some int you will gain the extra life to endure longer mob fights.
As for weapon, you seem to know enought :) Usefull side mods cud be Mana, Life or Heal Mastery, or at lower lvlers Mana/life Per kill
