How effective are they compared to mage casters?

Their popularity has gone down since the new focus is catacombs where it's better to have a regular mage.

Solo? I don't know, I assume they still work pretty well.
I'd always suggest a mage, however.

But be careful! Mages recently got very very nerfed so they are not nearly as powerful as they used to be and do not level as quickly.

if you want to go caster i'd say stick with mage as going rouge now is alot harder /w casting being changed

Rogues, like all off-class Casters, will have mana troubles. With the recent addition of Magical Defense, this hardly helps their cause.
However, with the right gear, they can be just as good as Mages (damage-wise, but still with about half the mana) for a lower cost. Rogue caster gear is much cheaper than Mage gear.

Mage = good caster

Rogue = budget caster

glad you posted this as i was about to post the exactly the same question

reason i was gonna ask is as you see my fg is low...i got basic charms from my mage which i could use and i seen crazy 40+ int weapons at lvl 30 etc going for 30 fg on the mp (rogue equippable) and i was just gonna ask is a rogue effective weller or shall i stick with my mage. ty for ur time and sorry to post in ur topic man but saves asking the same question.
