That's some bullshit right there, I hate it when I hear stories of people getting kicked out of catacombs. What happened to the LS players who were around when catacombs was first introduced? Everyone was so friendly and awesome, now there's just lots of hate-mongering and pre-pubescent rage there, like d2 but less so.
Personally I think that it's best to focus on one character so that you can build up proficiencies and also stat points from failed MQs. Oh and by the way, passing your MQ isn't always necessarily a good thing. Sometimes I try to intentionally fail my mage so that I can keep playing as a mage and get more stat points from the fails

But just make sure that you're in a guild when you attempt the MQ, because you get guild points regardless of if you pass or fail and if you're not in a guild then they are lost forever

and it makes me sad.
