im almost prof 2 in fishing but im still confused about a few things

first when should i use a new rod at what prof lvl ? or is splintered a good rod to stick with till lvl 5 prof

and is it smarter to fish at your lvl or try to go above it? or even below it?

damn my rod broke and i don't know if its because i need a upgrade or what.. theres no even good guides about fishing either

Splintered is fine until level 5 but if you find a nice pine rod before then you can switch at like lvl 3/4 and still do alright.

Better to fish at your level if you want prof, only fish below if you are farming. Going above your level doesn't really yield more xp especially when you factor in the additional time it takes to catch the fish and you run the risk of snapping due to stronger fish/bigger snags.
