I was thinking of making a very resilient tanking build for the legion guild and would like some help.

I was told at one point that a dex/intell guardian with mana syphon gear and a decent heal charm makes a great tank and would like to know how this stacks up to the rest of the more commonly accepted builds out there for tanks.

all thoughts and opinions are welcome please offer your advice!

i would go a tank barb with stating int/dex. and you can also do a little damage and maybe heal as a backup if needed

tank guards are a nice build being able to heal but if your going to go only mana syphon only its not going to work that well. mana syphon is a good 2nd mod but not the only one

I'd personally go with a fighter over a barb - in catacombs life isn't that important, and a fighter has 10 vit redistributed into more useful stats.

vitality also adds to DEFENSE to armors which is pretty important to his tank build :)

well to most important fact is dmg absorption. if he can tank well i dont care at all about dmg or healing. But as a bonus it would be nice to have a small amount of healing capabilities. whats the general build for equip and dex goals for a guardian tank/healer and whats the most important stats in what order?

like

armor

ee/hm/ms/dex,int

charm

ect

why would you take a fighter over a barb if you wanted to tank?

Barbs start with 10 more vita which is the stat you want a little more of, if you want to tank. i'd suggest hitting 75 vita (then u get 1 more free regen as well :P) then start pumping some damage.
My tank barb solo's mq's pretty fast, gets a pretty massive amount of hp and does "decent" damage (obviously not as high as those built for damage, but pretty close imo, my average is only ~ 50 off usually)


Ah you stated you'd prefer healing in last post rather to damage.

Usually it's best to heal rather than to tank, but a mix shouldnt be too bad, although with decent healing charms you can actually stay full hp until you get your mana back from level up.
I'd probably suggest going full int build, get a INT or HM club and EE or HM or INT (combo would be nice) armor, then a simple EE heal charm.
With 55 vita it's usually enough, better to get more int for more mana and better heals, rather than more hp for more armor and hp.

Stats in order: HM, INT, EE, all other stats will make very little difference unless they were very high.

DEX KEEPS THE CRITS AWAY BOTH IN AMOUNT OF CRIT AND HOW HIGH CRITS U TAKE

INT WILL REDUCE DAMAGE TAKEN FROM CASTER MONSTERS

ARMOR DEFENSE WILL EFFECT THE DAMAGE TAKEN FROM REGULAR MONSTER ATTACKS A NON CRIT NON CASTER ATTACK. VITA AND EE ON AN ARMOR WILL ADD THIS

YOU HAVE A TRIFECTA TO HIT TO BE THE PERFECT TANK HAVING A SHITLOAD OF LIFE WITHOUT HAVING THE PROPER BALANCE OF DEFENSE JUST MEANS UR A FREAKING MANA SINK FOR MAGES. MOST LIKE TO SAY 75 DEX 75 INT PERSONALLY ITS UP TO YOU AS TO THE WEAPON YOU USE THAT WOULD PICK WHICH CHARACTER YOU MAKE. i would choose a fighter over a barb as well for this case

50/40/10/50

60/25/5/60

the total overall is higher on the fighter for defensive stats

if anything a Guardian is a better tank for cata's

haha thanks very much best advice yet. Glad someone actually read the posts and helped me with tanking first everything second build. the dmg and healing is all only important as a secondary ability.

statting vitality to get one extra life regen is an inefficient way to get extra regen (same thing goes for mana regen)

do the math...

you also have to regen that extra life you get from that extra vitality (which takes longer than regenning that lower life with ONE less life regen)

you may regen more life per second with that extra vitality, but you wont regen that total life faster than the life total you would have if you did not stat that vitality at all

besides, 60 vitality is PLENTY with a 1xx ee level 55 armor, most mobs regular (non-crit) hits in catacombs arent higher than the defense on a 1xx ee level 55 plate (defense on 60 vit char)

what is the point of extra defense that is not defending against critical hits?
