long swords are good because they do a lot of damage but you can attack only every other turn...
If i were you, i'd buy a tier 3 (bronze) sword with ee off the mp for 1-2 fg and that should take you to lvl 5 where you can buy an iron sword with ee on it
or, if you want to go with something cheaper, buy axes with ee
