Enhanced effect only works for the item it's on. You have the fg to go whichever route you like, but it's definately more effective to get damage casting gear and play solo if you're looking for a better chance at finding decent items. If you'd like to advance through the characters and earn guild points, it'd be better to get a melee character going since samurai and paladin are more effective that way and are the next two classes you'd be able to unlock.
