It'll be a small success rate due to the amount of EE on the charm, but the Earth would be more effective due to the higher EE. It's also more consistent.

What EE would make it successful?

100 EE is a good range to aim for. A really important thing in welling is a decent heal charm. If you dont have one of those you wont complete alot of wells.

I would try to get more EE on a heal charm than a attack charm. You can have a 200EE attack charm with a bad heal charm and fail many wells.

44ee might be a little low though

44 is much too low - i managed about 70% of my wells using a 98ee earth and a 99ee focused heal.

use over 100ee on both, preferably 120ee if you can afford it. with this gear you should pass 85-90% of your wells.

but like people say, its far more important to have a good heal. try to get a 100ee++ focus or regular heal, stay away from wilds when welling.

So I'm going to shoot for 100EE on both, but heal charm is the priority. I've read that 64 is the best Level at which to start welling.

Is there a level where the monsters just get too hard?

I've also heard that the monster "uses" the item you drop in there, but this seems kind of ridiculous. Is it true? And is there any strategy to this?

Thanks again for all the help!

I'm upgrading my Well Mage, because currently I have 68% EE Focused Heal and 91% EE Wind, with about a 50% success rate. You really do need more to be successful.

You well at level 64 because Well monsters are your level + 1, so 65, and that's the lowest level needed to drop level 55 items/mods. As you level, the monsters get harder (obviously) and the +1 Stat and mediocre Life/Mana bonus doesn't really balance that out. It's still possible, but much harder.

Yes, a monster "uses" the item you throw into the well. If you're Welling a 55 Heal Charm, be prepared for him to be healing himself in the hundreds. If you throw in a Longsword, be prepared to take 1K+ damage critical hits.
