So, anyone have extensive experience with Heavy Hybrid Casters? And are able to compare them to Mage?

Here's the deal, I spent a fair bit of fg upgrading my Mage gear for his climbs, expecting to have to do many many MQs before passing, and then I passed on that same climb before I could utilize all the new gear

Now, I need to go with a Heavy Hybrid Caster I suppose. It is slow going for me right now (I do mostly arena). Currently level 18, and it takes 10 minutes a level . Does it speed up once I get into casting mode (level 35 or 40 or so), with average gear I guess.

Yes I did see Graals sticky above, but the guide needs to be re-written IMO.

I did grab/have a few items already. Got a 36 Int 45 Chainmail, couple Int Robes (leveling robes for Mage), still ISO a decent Int Sword, I have the Ice Charms lol, and some ok Heal Charms.

ISO your thoughts!! I am thinking I need to get some more fg, and upgrade my daggers (or sell them for swords, since if I pass Sammy, I want to do the same thing on Pally ) only need Melee gear for 1-35ish, Heavy Casting gear rest of the way.

Now that I am reading this, I guess this thread was mostly for reading my own thoughts to myself.......

how good is your melee gear compared to your casting? YOur climbs should speed up once you start casting.

ya, I melee'd to 20 on caster pally but my caster gear is pretty good if I do say so myself
with samurai you're probably right on at around 35
people will say that it's horrible to cast on a samurai because of the small mana pool, but in the end it won't be much worse than any other class
your regen will be faster and with a caster it's basically level time = ((kills needed)/(kills per regen))*(regen time) very generally. So the only thing that would make your samurai kill slower in the end is the lack of a few int to boost your damage

enjoy the heavy armors, it makes for a nice change of pace to have mana be the limiting factor

My melee gear is weak. Lower EE Daggers. Low everything really. My attack charms are much better, not GREAT, but better for sure.

I am gonna try selling some misc stuff for cheap I guess, for some quick fg.

alright, I think my low ee daggers are just not cutting it. 15 minutes a level in arena right now is too slow for me. I think I need to upgrade my weapons. I think I want to invest in some swords too, this would allow for Heavy Casting at Pally if I pass Sammy. What would are some optimum ee's at these levels that I should look for? Trying to keep a budget too. I did the same freakin' thing on my mage, got cheap Ice Charms at first, and then had to invest more fg for better ones later on. Yet another mistake!


My current daggers consist of (yes I know they are weak, I already said that! ):
0 = 45
5 = 47
10 = 54
15 = 70
20 = 70
25 = --
30 = 86


If I look for swords in this range, would it speed things up, and be more effective? I am just not familiar enough with melee to know for sure. I can tell from looking at the forum and MP that those items will probably end up in my price range.

lvl // ee
10 = ~80ee
15 = ~85ee
20 = ~90ee
25 = ~95ee
30 = ~100ee


I think my STR gear is alright, +25 STR level 15 charm, +23 DEX/+18 STR level 25 Robe, +19 STR level 10 Robe.
Or am I completely off the mark, and I just suck at LS?
