I've read the welling guide but it isn't all that comprehensive.

I've noticed that most wellers are mages. Is it possible to well with a Fighter? I am new to LS but just spent 16k on an axe and I would like to be able to well with it.

If it is possible for a fighter to kill high level well spawns, what is the best level to well at for each level of item thrown in?

What is the best armor/charm mods to look for?

its possible to well on any character. I well on a hybrid monk. Mages are just the easiest characters to well on. It is certainly possibly to well on your fighter. There really is no "best" level to well at. You have to be lvl 64 for 55 items to drop, some people like to just well everything at that level and some like to well at 71+ its all preference. For stats on armor look for a plate mail with EE and stats such as strength or dex. For charm look for things such as strength/dex and LPA works pretty well in wells

I've never seen very high life per attack.

yea its life per attack, I suggest LPA instead of life steal b/c items with good stats(Strength/dex/EE) combined with life steal can get very expensive and with your amount of fg I thought it was a better option for you.

Which is better if I were to have good equipment?

I have a 256EE axe and 21% life steal on my armor and charm (along with stats on each)

with the axe you have, i think its safe to say you'll be fine. life steal is better since you'll be doing a lot of dmg.
if you plan on using axes, you dont need a lot of dex. you should pump str to get higher dmg.
