Light weapons are best for now because heavy weapons are a (relatively) new addition to the game and can only be found in catacombs - therefore are a lot more expensive and the people who have the good ones hold onto them. If you can find a heavy weapon for a decent price with good stats then go for that, but otherwise don't go out of your way for it.

And as a caster I definitely wouldn't use a heavy weapon -_- that's just dumb.

/edit: and I voted for the 2nd to last option

go for better mods
but if you have two very similar weapons, I'd go with the heavy

i was expecting a more in depth look at this... and nev i would have thought you might have some more info about this then just heavy weapons are new...?

what about life per attack and mpa also life steal how does that factor in?
what about crit chance with mods like crit flux....

do these things not point to using light weapons for sure?

i need pro's and con's people not just use it or not who cares.

look at my profile
there are a few links where I do some math
crit/flux don't matter since you have the same chance with either and they are % based, not a +XX damage based so they both benefit equally
LpA isn't really that important of a mod past level 20 imo, and even up to there, heavies would make you kill so much faster that the 1/2 LpA wouldn't hurt you
as I said, look in my profile :)

I think heavy weapons would benefit greatly from Quick Draw.
So if you have the items for it then it should be effective in theory.

Heavy weapon with high EE and Quick draw as second mod.
Armor with 10+ quickdraw + other mods
Charm with 10+ quickdraw + other mods.

Powershot as an important mod if you use a Longsword heavy weapon.

Heavy weapon should do better then light weapons against heavy armored mobs.
Glyph items with quickdraw mod and use them.
